Ferals are less scary than feebles.
It was weird that the Rabbit was named after a rabbit-killing disease...

Yeah, it definitely did remind me somewhat of a sanitised version of Meet the Feebles.

Also, Mixy always reminds me of Myf Warhurst for some reason. Something about her face? I don't know.

LittleChicken - if you're feeling very keen, you could probably walk - I don't remember seeing where you're staying. Northey St isn't *that* far from city/valley - maybe an hour's walk? Green Edge would be maybe two? Or maybe I walk really slow or exaggerate things in my head? ;)

We're staying in the CBD. We're arriving at 7am and sadly I have a feeling that an hour walk may be a little ambitious after the red-eye flight. :-)

I've just been looking through a list of vegan-friendly restaurants in the Brisbane CBD on Urbanspoon. Any opinions?

I imagine some are probably erroneous listings (I've discovered that the hard way with some of the Perth restaurants) but a few look promising. I've emailed Sono and been sent a menu that looks very tasty!

Only three more sleeps! :-)

Hey guys!

Does anyone know of any quality piercing places and vegan tattoo places in W.A ? It's my hometown but I've been in Melbourne and Tassie for years so not really familiar with it anymore.

Ta x

Heh, sorry...in western australia? Perth or South West as I'm moving around a bit at the moment.

I used to go to Primal Urge in the middle of the CBD for piercings, but I've heard that Primitive is also good (also in the CBD, right near Perth station). Holdfast in Mt Lawley is sposed to be the best place for tattoos. I'm pretty sure Primitive do tattoos too.
There's a place in Subiaco called Steel Candy (for piercings) who are also decent, and I've heard that Unique tattoos aren't bad (next door, also in Subiaco). I don't know much about further South-West.

You'd have to double-check with Holdfast about the vegan ink side of things, but I think they'd be your best bet, and are most likely to have vegan ink. They have a woman tattoo artist working there whose work is amazing, I wish I could remember her name, I think it's something like Laura? Lauren? Maybe? Anyway, good luck!

Can anyone shed any light on which margarine brands are vegan? I know about Nuttelex of course, which contains 6% sustainable palm oil & the vitamin D is from a vegetable source. I usually use Nuttelex. I read somewhere that Melrose table spread is the only margarine available with no palm oil in it, but I'm not too keen on the texture & you can't use it for cooking (& it makes toast soggy). I just read a letter from Woolworths saying that their Macro Soy Spread is free of palm oil (using just soy & coconut) & that their D & other ingredients are all vegetable derived. I also found a site that claimed ETA 5 Star is vegan, but doesn't it contain hydrogenated oil (which I avoid)?

I actually have only found I think two other margarines that don't have milk solids in them! There is a tablelands dairy free (can't remember if has D), but EVERY OTHER marg I checked had milk solids in it. So i think Nuttelex, Melrose and Tablelands are the only options.

Is anyone else in Brisbane having trouble getting plain tofu at the supermarket lately? We've been having trouble in Hawthorne/Bulimba area. My boyfriend asked someone at Woolies, he said that they deleted it from their ordering system??? So odd.

Hmm No I haven't, Veglicious, but I have noticed lots of changes in terms of veg products, and a seemingly narrowing selection... Maybe they thought you meant "tofutti"? I know they've had lots of issues/seem to have deleted tofutti (off and on again)

My local Woolworths (in Perth) hasn't had plain tofu available for the past week either. Hopefully they'll come to their senses and restock it!

I've been fine with tofu, but my local Coles has stopped stocking plain tempeh - only 'tasty'. I should write to them...

Post subject:  Re: The Aussie & NZ Thread!

I thought you guys just had really unfortunate supermarkets, but I just went to Woolies and there's no plain tofu here either. Just that pre-marinated stuff and a ton of gross Tofutti cheese slices (WHO BUYS THOSE?).

I wrote to Coles about a month ago because they keep freezing their tofu and then putting it on the shelves, and I would go home to make a delicious alfredo sauce or something and my silken tofu would look like some weird, dried out, separated sponge when I opened it. They replied but were totally uninterested- they said that next time I should just bring the tofu back (a terrible solution, because it would require me to put pants back on after I've gotten home) and that they would talk to the manager about it. I went back the other day and everything was still frozen, so fork those guys.

I ended up getting Kingland tofu from the fruit and veg shop for dinner tonight, but it doesn't look awesome.

Post subject:  Re: The Aussie & NZ Thread!

i wrote to them today. i wrote to my local iga the other week about their lack of sanitarium deli luncheon and casserole mince and they were very prompt with their answers. i'm *hoping* woolies will be similar, but i don't hold much hope. i did put in my letter that not stocking tofu for vegetarians is like not stocking chicken or beef for "normal" people, to perhaps give them an idea of it's importance in my weekly meal plan... surely what amounts to almost 50% of all australian supermarkets can't suddenly disregard vegetarians alltogether?

maybe we should start a "vegetarians say fork you to woolies until you re-neg on tofu" facebook page?
