Sorry for the title mishap! That should read vegan-friendly. Can a moderator correct it?

Okay I have a couple of questions.

Has anyone here tried Tal Ronnen's new restaurant, Crossroads? My dad sent me an email with a link to a recommendation from talk show host Ellen:

http://m.ellentv.com/article_head.ftl?siteId=blogSite&guid=http://www.ellentv.com/2013/04/03/ellen-recommends-crossroads-restaurant/

I'm also curious about Lyfe in Culver City, which was mentioned in the New York Times Magazine cover story by Mark Bittman this weekend.

I've been to Crossroads twice now and it's really lovely. It's pricey, and the portion sizes are quite small, but that's to be expected for this type of restaurant ("white table cloth"). Tal came out to my table both times to see how things were -- he's very sweet. The dishes are great, some are amazingly good, and overall the experience was great.

That's great to hear, except the part about small portions. What are your favorite dishes there?

There's an artichoke "oyster" dish, where the artichoke leaves mimic oyster shells -- it's delicious! The leek & cauliflower bisque was amazing, and the scallopini with morel mushrooms was really, really good. I also loved the "crab cakes."

And for dessert there's carrot cake ice cream where carrot cake chunks are folded into the ice cream. Really, really good!

My friend was looking for brekky options for me and The Grain cafe came up but neither of us had heard of it so we waited til 11am and went to Real Food Daily - YUM!

I've been to Crossroads twice too. LOVE IT! I think the crab cakes and chickpeas are my favorite dishes. I was not at all impressed with the risotto banana pepper :/

Haven't tried Lyfe yet. Supposedly there is a gelato & sandwich shop opening up "soon" by the owners of Madeline Bistro in West LA on Pico that I want to try if it ever actually does open...

Yes, it's very frustrating how long it is taking them to open Maddy's. I guess they have been having previews because there is now one actual review on Yelp.

It's been over a year now that they've been talking about it, right? So close to where I live too, it would be nice to have another option within walking distance.

Sage Vegan in Echo Park is amazing. They are opening an outpost in Culver City sometime this summer.

I've been to Crossroads just once and the food was amazing -- but I found the service to be annoying. The Scallopini with Morel Mushrooms was really just out of this world.

On the newish side, LA Vegan Crepe is a stand-out. The crepe's are great (my favorite is the Crepe Savoyarde) but the pate is to die for. And, the desserts -- OH. MY. GOD. I have filthy dreams about the banana chocolate napoleon.

Wow, that is exciting news for someone like me, who really likes Sage but lives quite a distance from Sage. I hope they do well in Culver City -- I have a feeling they'd be better off in Santa Monica since M. Cafe had to close shop in Culver City, but I will support them since I'm glad they're coming to my neck of this forest.

Do you know where in Culver City they plan to locate?

Thanks, that is to know. I haven't been to LA Vegan Crepe yet; must check it out sometime.

I was just at Real Food Daily yesterday for their 20th anniversary and while there, I learned that they will be opening a mini-RFD at LAX later this year. It will be in Terminal 4.

Quality vegan food at the airport! Yay for that!

Sage Vegan is opening on Sepulveda and Washington Blvd in Culver City -- just on the far west border of CC and Mar Vista.

Exciting! I'm in Westchester so that brings them a lot closer to me. I really like their food but have only eaten at the Echo Park location twice. Do you know when they'll be opening?

No idea when they are opening -- peering in the window makes it seem like they are close to being ready, but Maddy's on Westwood looked like that for almost a year.

If you are in Westchester, you're so close to Stuff I Eat. Super jealous!

I've never been to Stuff I Eat. Must check it out.

Is Maddy's (if you're talking about the Madeleine Bistro offshoot on Pico Blvd.) open yet? I feel like I've been waiting forever...

Maddy's is open! I drove by and decided to check. Unfortunately, I wasn't hungry enough to eat, but bought a dessert and some cashew cheese just to show my support. They give ice cream samples if you are having trouble deciding.

I second LA Vegan Crepe. I love that place. Free wifi, relaxing setting, and yes, yes, yes on the napolean!!! The owner and waitstaff are super friendly but not intrusive. I will cry if they ever go out of business, so please support them! I look horrible when I cry.

I tried LYFE a couple of times. The food is fresh and tasty (I especially like the elixirs), but I felt the portions should have been bigger for the price. Nice, clean, modern, "green" vibe with friendly service and free wifi.

Shojin (vegan sushi) opened a location in Culver City. I've only been to the downtown location, but I can't wait to try CC since it's closer.

Samosa House has two locations in Culver City. Samosa East is much smaller. The other one also has an Indian store attached. The restaurant is vegetarian, but has vegan items.

Super excited about Sage Culver City. I love their succotash.

The Vegan Joint in Hollywood and on National in Culver City. I've yet to try it, but the menu is crazy extensive with good prices.

The Bassasserie makes the most bad a$$ vegan reuben. Puts Native Foods' Reuben to shame.

The Seed Kitchen in Venice is a nice little find.

The Counter makes a good vegan burger, but none of their buns are vegan. I wrote them a friendly email and never heard back. Kind of disappointing Customer Service.

Lemonade in Venice has some vegan options, but sadly, most of the veg options have cheese and are pre-made.

Larchmont Bungalow in Larchmont Village has a decent selection of vegan dishes. It's a good brunch spot if eating with non-vegans.

The Yardhouse downtown is also a good choice if eating with non-vegans.

The Golden Mean is S.M. I've only been once, but it was a nice casual place to eat.

M.A.K.E. on the roof of the SM Place mall is a raw food restaurant.
