Civico 1845. Whoa. A caprese-type salad the likes of which I haven't had in years. Pesto gnocchi.

And then on to Cafe Gratitude for dessert. Perfect dining experience.

So a lot of the Hagen grocery stores are going out of business. I had never been to one, but happened to be driving past the one on El Camino and La Costa and it had giant "Store Closing" signs up. I went in and found wheat gluten for 50% off. I managed to resist buying all the gluten and only bought 2. If you live near one of the ones that is closing down, it's worth checking out what they have. On a related note, the original price of everything is outrageous. No wonder they are all closing.

I'm a few weeks away from my winter visit. Any must dos? I do want to try Civico 1845.

Now that my parents older dog has passed on, they also want to do some more active stuff (as active as they can with my mom's bad back, my stepdad's recent knee surgery, etc). They are thinking of even overnighting some place. We've been to various parts of SoCal including touristy things like Solvang, Big Bear (more suitable for summer), etc. My mom thinks staying in the Mojave is a good idea but I'm like have you seen the snakes... plus winter is too cool for that.

Definitely Civico! I went again this week. The Gnocchi pesto is so wonderful.

The snakes in the desert are in a state of torpor now, you don’t have to worry about them. If they come out at all they will be moving slowly.
Instead of Mojave, why not Anza Borrego? Borrego Palm Canyon is beautiful and you are likely to see sheep without walking far at all. The walk into the palm oasis is very gentle.

It’s chilly at night but sunny and nice during the day in either desert.

And there’s always Catalina!

Oh I know snakes in December aren't much of an issue :) We could do Anza Borrego easily although I'm not sure we'd overnight there. I was amused that there was a hotel called the Casa del Zorro :) And I keep forgetting about Catalina but we should go one day.
