No tips, but I heard about this trip and I hope there will be photos of fun posted. Or at least tweets.

I live in Zagreb so I can give you some insider tips- just tell me what are you interested in?

vegan food/ fast food restaurants in city center:

GREENPOINT in Varsavska street no.10 , VEGEHOP in Vlaska street no.79...

Also Zagreb is crowded with bakeries and I often eat in those named MLINAR. Most of the products are non-vegan, but there are few vegan things, such as: BUREK S JABUKAMA i BUREK S VIĊ NJAMA ( burek with apples and with cherries , btw burek is something like pita).

Hi anani! Thank you.

We want to do a good mix of food, art, coffee (are there places with soy milk? vegan cake/pastries or a breakfast even?) and hanging out in the park.
Some nice evening/night activities would be great. I have the AKC Medika and the Kino Europa on my list.

I love Bureks! That's a great insider tip.

Places where you can have offee with soymilk: Kino Europa, Tvornica, Booksa- all of these places are really cool, but they don`t serve meals/food.
Not sure for places with vegan breakfast. There is a great raw food restourant with vegan breakfast but they are closed during the summer season ( they live in Dubrovnik during the summer). I would reccomend fresh bagels with a pate or something ( for example: in store named DM- they sell cosmetics and healthy food- you can buy vegan pate for 1,50-2 Euro) and some fresh fruits and veggies- in the city center and all around you/ll find markets with fresh, beautiful, GMO free veggies ;). that way you can have a fast, delicious and cheap breakfast.
Tip for bagels: in MLINAR all bagels and breads have declarations with ingredients, so you can ask to give you something without milk and butter.
Vegan cakes: VEGEHOP.

Croats have made the whole culture of drinking coffee, you`ll see ;)

AKC Medika is great place.

Also there is constantly something going on in the city- lots of street festivals, music festivals etc. so I`m sure you will love it ( unless you`re coming in August- that is dead month in Zagreb, I mean nobody`s there and nothing is going on).

Parks: Maksimir, Ribnjak, Jarun, Bundek...- in Bundek and Jarun you can have a swim in the artificial lake and in Bundek you can also have a barbecue ( a part of the park is adjusted for grilling, so you can bring food, light a fire and grill! )

Thank you so much! This is so helpful!

I forgot the most important question: Is there vegan ice cream?! :)

Oh, you have DMs, that's perfect! We are renting an apartment and have a kitchen, so we can always have breakfast "at home".

I am super excited to visit!

I`m not an ice cream fan, but there are few kinds of vegan ice cream ( not from soymilk but made of fruits) and you can find it anywhere. The producer is Ledo ( Croatian ice cream factory) and their names are: Kontiki, Bubi and Juicy.

yes, you should definitely try napolitanke ( tnx for a reminder @ijustdiedinside :-) )
here is the list of vegan products from Kras factory ( Croatian chocolate factory:
Bajadera, Griotte, Fontana - chocolates, I highly reccomend Bajadera;
napolitanke: Kras lemon orange, Kras nougat, Kras chocolate.
you can buy these in every store in the city, or/and in the Kras store ( two of them are situated in the main square ).
also if you are going to come in next two weeks, you'll still be able to enjoy fresh cherys ( but not the cherys you are used to eat- these are different kind, much sweeter and better- the croatian word for this is TRESNJA)and strawberries from local farmers.

a coffee/any other drink would be nice on an evening that is good for you!
and don't worry, we are very independent travelers and will only ask you many questions, no guiding needed :)

so, nova is closed for good?

So glad I found this thread! Two weeks from today I'll be landing in Zagreb! I'm very excited now. We're spending about 12 days in the region, but I won't derail this thread from its focus on Zagreb.
Are bureks with vegetable fillings all vegan? Or are some made with butter? I really want one.
Thanks for all the info, anani! What are your favorite restaurants? Is there anywhere to get green juice in the country I'M ASKING FOR JOJO. :P

Hey there, last year i went in Croatia, a friend of mine suggested me to spend my vacations over Croatia, firstly i couldn't believe that Croatia is a perfect place to spend vacations but there was just awesome. I planned to stay just a week but i continued for two more weeks.

There are a lot of places that are worth to visit, i was in Zagreb too it was a great adventure, i was in Dubrovnik, Split, Krka too. I did a research over Croatia best places to visit : http://www.mawista.com/blog/en/top-14-p ... n-croatia/

But it's your decision, i think it's a worth place to visit!
