I have recently moved to a really rural area where I don't know many people. Also, I'm only working a little. This means, among other things, that I am spending a lot of time online. That's okay... there's interesting information and folks online. The really great stuff can be hard to find though, because often what is "trending", or what have you, is shiitake. So my question dear ppkers, is what are your favorite online check-ins? Here goes without saying but what blogs and vlogs do you love, other forums do you chat on, where do you go to read news, history, have your ideas challenged? What podcasts or online radio stations are you tuned to? It can be Veganism related or totally random.. I just want to know what is awesome! :)

I like fluff, so I love the Tom & Lorenzo blog. They do red carpet/fashion critique. The extra awesome thing about them is that they have strict rules: they keep things pretty fun and don't get mean, they will only snark when the celeb is clearly doing an appearance where they have been decked out by stylists and makeup artists and been given piles of free clothes, and absolutely no body snarking at all. They will shut down anything like that in the comments very quickly.
I read all the science sections on all the online newspapers.

Mike and Tom Eat Snacks! It's a hilarious podcast, recommended by another ppker. Other than them and A Way With Words, my podcasts are all NPR ones. Speaking of which, I am crushed that Car Talk is ending.

Robyn and Taran Killam doing Call Your Girlfriend is my very favorite thing on the internet:
And I also love Slog for politics, arts, and music, and Marc Maron's podcast for cats and comedy.

I love A Way With Words! It made taking all the ancient wallpaper off of my boyfriend's spare bedroom walls entertaining and not maddening! I also love Radiolab. And Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me. Also, if you can listen to Says You! on the radio (while you're looking on the internet at things) it's pretty great but I haven't found it online anywhere.
Jezebel is my guilty pleasure.
Car Talk sidebar: I thought they were going to re-run the old episodes of Car Talk on the radio rather than taking them off the air but that probably depends on local npr stations? If they do play them on our station I'll probably have them all memorized eventually, we listen to them every Saturday morning before getting out of bed (while looking at cats and dogs on the local humane society website).

Lot's of great stuff... I'll have fun with all that.
HA... Call Your Girlfriend is great. I had not seen that before. I was so sure from the start of the video and both of their fuzzy tops that the "talk" that needed to be had was that he's a furry. Um, mind leave gutter.

The Hairpin is one of my favorite websites. Great articles and links. Commenters are among the nicest on the internet. They also plan local meet-ups, book clubs, etc.
Even though the main page of Reddit is filled with a lot of misogyny and idiocy I still use the site a lot, if you find some subreddits that you like it can be a fun time waster and you can learn a lot about things you are interested in.
Twitter is also a big time waster for me, chatting with people, following comedians and news sources, and random funny twitter people.
My latest source of fun, though, is Full House Reviewed, which is pretty much the best blog ever.

Ozma, I like to listen to the old radio programs from before TV was invented. There's a website that has all the old programs like the "shadow" and Charley Chan. The website is called radiolovers.
