I'm about a hundred pages into My Own Country. It's really well written, but pretty depressing.

I do not like Stranger in a Strange Land and I think Starship Troopers is merely OK. I really liked some of his YA novels, though, and have read a few good short stories. I love Howl's Moving Castle. I guess it was the loveliest YA book I've read in some time (emphasis on "lovely", because I adore Railsea - it's just not a "nice and neat and unthreatening" book and shouldn't be one anyway). My BF has read The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and says it's not mind-blowingly awesome but a good read.

Finally finished The Fear Index, and about to start Dead Reckoning. Sookie et al will come as blessed relief.

I read Geek Love a few years ago! Good comparison, I'd forgotten about that one.

I just finished Wolf Totem. I wouldn't recommend it, especially if you have an aversion to animal cruelty. The book read like a series of lectures punctuated by horrific scenes of animal cruelty and slaughter, with some bs reverence for the slaughtered animals. Did not like. I wanna find out who recommended this to me so I can punch them in the junk next time I see them.

I just read The Last Werewolf but I was eh on it. I don't like when you can tell what the author is into sexually be reading their novels. It's disconcerting.

Finishing the last of the John Silence stories before deciding what to read next. I really like "The Camp of the Dog" (apart from the reasoning... "Red Indian blood"? Seriously?!).

I liked it, but I didn't really think the sex added to the story. Pfft. I'm going to read the next one when it comes out in paperback or I happen upon it at the library, whichever comes first. I'm officially almost done with 1Q84. I've actually enjoyed it, but I'm looking forward to starting something new. Just ordered The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker (In hardcover! True dedication.) and I'm pretty excited about it.

I finished Crime & Punishment by Dostoyevsky, Eleven minutes by Paulo Coelho, which was a re-read and I used to love it but was extremely disappointed by it this time, and now I am reading Under The Dome by Stephen King. It is my first time reading Stephen King (well I tried one before but I just couldn't get into his writing) and it is OK so far, but I feel like getting through this is going to be a challenge because it is a little dry so far.

We read something like this (outdoorsy, overcoming-the-odds, disaster-ish) every year when we camp in the redwoods. Our camp time was cut a little short this year so we're finishing at home, currently on chapter 14.

I'm reading a Clash of Kings. Loving this series so far.
And I'm working my way through the Silmarillion, very slowly.

I'm halfway through The Malacia Tapestry by Brian Aldiss. Strange, fun... but I wish it would "do" more (especially politically). I guess I'm spoiled. ;P

3/4 of the way through Finnegans Wake, 1/10 of the way through Slavoj Žižek's new book Less Than Nothing (slow reading), and just picked up Michael Albert's Parecon: Life After Capitalism. It's been a good summer for reading.
