So the guy I like has started calling me "Miss Lang" (my last name) and I can't handle it because it reminds me of how Christian calls her "Miss Steele" and it just feels so sleazy!

I hear you, my partner is in the army and I used to call him "sir" and he'd call me "ma'am" and I can't do it anymore now D:

Definitely going to avoid this. All the good writers must be working for the government or selling insurance or something. Because they are definitely not writing this shiitake. Thanks for a public service thread.

Ok. I read it. I finally gave in since I had dozens of women telling me I had to check out the "mommy porn" book. And someone loaned me the trilogy

It was terrible. I am halfway through the second one. Why? well first of all I read super fast. Like, I read the first in less than 3 hours. That's just 3 lunch breaks for me. But I mostly kept reading because it is HILAROUS. oh man. This has to be the most poorly written book in history. I read sections aloud to my parnter and he thinks I am making it up. The dialouge is ridiculamazing.

I also enjoy really terrible B movies, so maybe that puts it into perspective a little more. I actually ENJOY bad stuff. But this is pretty bad, even by my standards. I am halfway through the second one. I am reading it at night (got a sci-fi to read at lunch, and another book to read in the mornings) and I can read it while watching tv.

My partner thinks I am insane. I think it is funny. I literally crack up when reading it.

oh and funny as it is, I hate the idea of young girls reading this...that dude is super abusive emotionally/mentally. And the main character, Ana, is dumber than a box of rocks. What an awful role model.

The sex parts were ok. Well a couple of them in the first book at least, were pretty good. But I don't usually read erotica (or haven't in years)

My advice: read it if you like bad stuff, can appreciate how awful it is. You might get a kick out of it. Otherwise, you will lose x number of hours of your life that you can never get back.

These books are godawful. I keep reading excerpts and summaries on tumblr and wanting to throw my laptop or something. Christian and Anastasia never seem to actually speak at a normal volume - he always murmurs or mutters and she always whispers. And what the fizzle does it mean to fork someone "seven shades of Sunday"? EL James, you realize that you're not AWARE of your subconscious, right?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't know what that means.

I lasted two pages. The writing is so appallingly bad I honestly felt something snap in my brain. A friend is begging me to read it all so we can bisque about how bad it is but I can't handle it. Husband read some parts aloud and I was yelling at him to stop.

I did enjoy the Laci Green '50 Shades of what the fizzle' video clip though. It sums up how I feel about a book I've never read.

My kindle tells me I'm at about 70% through the second one and it's taken 2 or 3 months to get that far. It's SO boring.

I've had a couple of friends tell me to try it and that I would absolutely for sure love it... but the more I've learned about it the more I highly, highly doubt it. I was able to struggle through the terrible writing that was Twilight, but this tripe sounds pretty insufferable.
