I really liked it but I didn't know it was based on a comic. I thought it was pretty awesome that a tv show was that gory, the hubby and I kept commenting on how top notch the effects were. Can't wait for next week.

Everything wrote: How much of a douche is Shane, though? I've always been kind of peeved by the gender representations in this comic, but I guess it suits for the region they're in. :/ Ha ha, no kidding. I can't remember much of the comics since it's been years since I read the first trade but I don't remember it being this overt--at least not right off the bat. That first scene in the show with Shane was especially bad. I wanted to punch him in the face by the end of it, especially when I realized that whole thing was suppose to endear him to the audience a little. Yeeaah, no. But that's ok, he's one of those characters I'm going to enjoy not liking ;) I was really excited to see Bear McCreary composing the music, though! I love his work!

i liked it. I think? I was pretty freaked out most of the time, but towards the end I decided it wasn't the kind of show that was looking to make me jump all the time. I will be watching it next week!

We named the crawling torso with entrails "Squiggly." And so it made it doubly heartbreaking when he shot Squiggly.

I loved it. I was really surprised (and weirdly impressed?) with how freely they showed the gore. I don't remember ever seeing violence that graphic on a television show.

I was pretty into the show, I had no idea the first episode was going to be so long. I dv-red at my parents and watched it last night. I like how the majority of the episode was spent building characters and exploring the trauma of living through the zombie epidemic instead of hitting us over the with gore and violence right from the start, though I did like the zombie horde in the city quite a bit.

The horse getting eaten made me sad. Poor scared horsie. :(
I've been waiting for a zombie t.v. show forever. Movies really are too short to cover an entire zombie apocalypse. Romero did his series, but all of the movies look different and have different actors and then Diary of the Dead came out and I just wanted to cry.

That's because horses are noble creatures and generally, humans are not. Seriously, I think the reason is that i've seen plenty of horror movies with people getting killed so i'm kind of used to it, i'm not used to horse screams.

I can't think of any zombie movie I have seen where this has happened. I remember seeing an alligator chilling with the zombie horde in Day of the Dead and zombie shark fight in Zombie. I guess it makes sense though.

I had to fastforward through the horse bit (no pun intended). It would have bothered me way too much.
The minute I saw that guy riding that horse into Atlanta in the preview I thought, 'That horse is gonna get eaten. And I don't want to see that."

I just watched it, I'm way into it so far. I don't know anything about the comics, but is it just because it's a convenient way to start zombie stories that 28 Days Later starts almost exactly the same way, or are they based off the same thing?

I've read that Robert Kirkman was primarily influenced by George A Romero's work when writing the walking dead, there could be some influence from 28 days though.

I thought this too. It's a great introduction to the zombie apocalypse, but it's exactly what happened in 28 days later...

Am I actually the only person who thought it was just.....missing something? I'm not writing it off just yet, especiall as I learnt of its existence only moments after thinking I would start a thread here moaning about all the vampires and lack of zombies on tv - I want to like it so much. But it feels a little stale already. I know you can't characterise a zombie much, but it better get more involved in the next few episodes, the first one was like watching the intro scenes of 28 days later where everything is deserted. Except not quite as impressively done and it just trudged on like that for aaaaaaages.
But I love zombies so I'll probably watch all of it whether I like it or not. Squiggly just wanted some brains.

I'm gonna say the guy's wife was banging his partner before the zombie outbreak.

I thought it was missing something too. I think it was hard for me to care about the characters, except the man and his son, and that's the thing that always keeps me watching a series. But besides that, it seems like they're doing most everything right, so I have hope for more character development in future episodes! I was pretty upset that the main character thought it would be a good idea to ride a horse into a city full of zombies, though. Because you know you're gonna sacrifice that horse. So inconsiderate. As a viewer, I'm way more upset by that than just seeing a random horse get eaten by zombies.

The most disappointing thing about it was when they revealed Shane was still alive. I was really looking forwards to seeing a Shane zombie getting shot in the head :/
I'm hoping the father and son show up again in the series too.

I'm hoping the father and son show up again in the series too. me, too. it would be a real shame if, in an attempt to spare his zombie wife, he caught the attention of neighboring zombies and was subsequently devoured. mrsbadmouth wrote: I'm gonna say the guy's wife was banging his partner before the zombie outbreak. yeaaah, I'm going with this^^
