Yah, I agree. Herschel was pretty set in his ways in the comics and he seems more so in the tv series (in the comics the barn thing went down 100% differently).
I am torn on Shane, I really hate him but I do agree they have kept his character pretty consistent with the comics so it is interesting to see how his presence changes the course of events.

I'm thinking about checking out the comic books. Anyone know how far I can go into the comics without spoiling the TV show for myself?
TV series is a completely different story. The author is taking it in an entirely different direction, it's so different. In terms of the books, the show progresses soooooo slowly. The haven't left the first hard cover book yet.
Arguably you could read the whole series without spoiling the show as they are taking it in a different direction, some of the same characters but trying things out a different way. If you don't want to read past the tv show, read halfway through the first hardcover book.
At this juncture, it won't be hard to avoid spoilers. Read until the barn/Hershel's farm, then stop reading.

I think Rick could let the affair with his wife go, I'm not sure Shane can. It will be interesting what happens when Rick and Shane talk about it. I think how that plays out will decide the future of Shane's mental health and if he leaves the group (most likely by his own accord).

Carol and Daryl absolutely CANNOT have any physical, sexual conduct. It completely grosses me out as was mentioned previously - she is so matronly and motherly towards him. It would feel wrong - so wrong!
I think the farm may be discovered by a larger, stronger, more ruthless group of survivors who try to take it over by force. I still think Herschel could crack and pull a family suicide - the idea of lighting the place afire with everyone inside is a possibility too.
I was crestfallen when I realized there was no episode on last night!
Maybe the CDC doctor whispered something akin to there is no cure or there is no hope?

I feel the same way and I am not sure why. They are within dating range of each other. I can't recall Carol interacting with Daryl at all until after Andrea shot him.
If they did couple up then the TWD would really be a soap opera. You would have the nice stable people couple ( The Grimes ), the emotionally troubled couple ( Shane & Andrea ), the redneck couple, the token black guy and old grandpa Dale.
One of the things I liked about season 1 was the ethnic mix of characters, both in Rick's group and in the enclave in the hospital they encountered in Atlanta. There are a ton of horror movies with white middle class people interacting with monsters/ghosts/etc. I thought it was an interesting twist in season 1 to have a bit of a multi-ethnic thing going on and I was looking forward toward AMC developing that.
I hope so! His actions have been pretty terrible and so far no one has relly called him on it.
Well Dale has. I fear for Dale every time he has confronted Shane though. Especially the last time when they were in the woods alone. I was just waiting for Shane to blow Dale's brains out. Even though Dale has been annoying this season by being all up in everyone's business, I give the guy credit for having the balls to confront Shane knowing damn well that he's a nutjob.
I am so not down with a Carol/Daryl sexual relationship. It just seems icky and gross. So wrong on a Cordelia/Connor level . Okay, maybe not that repulsive but still pretty vomit worthy. It just can't and shouldn't happen.
I was really hoping and waiting for Rick to not have it in him to shoot Sophia. I think it would've been awesome if Carl was the one to step up and kill her.
At first I was gonna get mad at this, but then I was like "Oh, yeah." At least he's not dead...yet.
I think their best bet here is to kill that guy off and bring on a new token black guy - one they'll actually give lines and a storyline to. And please god don't give them a -dog name. Maybe a Lil- name.

Nobody is showering in those conditions!
Also, seriously, why do the girls always have reasonably clean-looking hair? Mine is a mess after two days without washing. I would just shave it all off (Daryl seemed like he was into that, right?).
I think Daryl's grunginess is super gross. I like him as a character, but there is nothing physically appealing to me about that guy.
Glen, on the other hand, manages to look neat and clean even without regular access to a shower. I realize he's out trudging through the forest less than Daryl, but still.

This sort of thing is particularly bad with old Hollywood movies. The Ten Commandments is a good example. The Jewish women, who were slaves, doing physical labor and living in the dirt looked like they stepped out of salons.
