Does Fred Penner count? I think every Canadian can list that as a celebrity sighting.... He came in to my parents' hardware store and bought a knife. Kind of creepy.
Other than that I've led a pretty celebrity-free life.

On my very first trip to Vegas, as my brother and I were waiting for my luggage, we saw a dude holding a sign for Scott Bakula. Of course, we were all 'omgomgmaybewecangethimtosay'ohboy'forus'. We stood nearby waiting, like creeps. Finally, someone approached the sign dude and they turned towards the door and...it was not Scott Bakula of Quantum Leap fame.
That's all i've got.

A friend of mine from high school lived next door to Scott Bakula's sister. She used to babysit her kids and said he was nice when he wasn't so famous, not so nice when he became more famous.

Ryan, you are a liar. In any possible situation, there is never anything better to look at than you.

There are only two celebrities whom I would be insanely, lose-my-shit excited to meet, and they are Elvis Costello and Joss Whedon. I met Edward James Olmos when I was a kid. He was at a gas station by the beach with his son, and my brothers asked for his autograph and he was super nice. At the time I didn't know who he was, but now I love him (HELLO BILL ADAMA) and I wish I remembered the whole encounter more clearly. I don't know if this counts because it wasn't random, but I met Michael Chabon at a book signing and he is incredibly handsome and charming in person.

I need some decent celeb sightings. In the mall in Raleigh I saw Jerry Seinfeld. I told the bf at the time and he didn't believe me because I think most people look like someone. I sent him over (I am not a fan) and it was him and he got his autograph on the only paper we had - a Food Lion receipt. I worked for RBC's trading division on Ave of the Americas and at the Au Bon Pain in the lobby, I was fixing my coffee next to Geraldo and his blueberry muffin. ScooterDiva wrote: Passed Kristin Davis in the hall at UCLA Santa Monica when I worked there. I thought it was her, gave her a questioning look, and she smiled back at me as if to say "I know what you're thinking". . I swear I had this same experience in NYC but with Alex the vegan chef, aka Morgan Spurlock's wife. eta: And of course I've met Isa and Terry and Tony Fiore and I stood right next to Sarah Kramer.

Fergie, Duchess of York circa 1992 at my workplace.
Roger Ebert on the subway - 2001.
Adrian Grenier at a store - 2011 - just a couple of months ago.
Brendan Fraser (sp? Frasier = George of the Jungle guy, maybe one of the Mummy movies?) on Yonge Street circa 1995.
And probably others I'm forgetting of the "international" scope.
Many local/Canadian celebs that I won't list.

Sandra Bernhardt (coming out of a liquor store. She's so tall!) Leonardo Dicaprio (at the museum with his mom) Claire Danes (was in the same row as me at the movie theater and it was weird to hear her laugh during the movie) Jackie Chan (in Union Square) Marc Jacobs (at his xmas party) Julia Stiles (passed her on the street)

Vegan Celebs - (alphabetically) Julie Hasson, Tami Noyes and Joanna Vaught
Other celebs (you youngins won't probably recognize or non-sports fans for that matter) - Bobby Hull (the Golden Jet Chicago Blackhawks hockey legend). He was doing a promo for a beer at a local dive bar. He was drinking lots of that beer with all of us.
I worked at a very high-end car dealership as a service writer. I wrote up Steve McMichael's car. He was kind of a dick. Then Matt Suey came in and I already had attitude because of other egotistical jocks. He was super nice and I felt like a jerk. (Both Chicago Bears). I didn't get to meet him, but I had to hunt down Walter Payton's car to find a personal item he needed.
I once waited on Emmett Smith and his family. He was super nice. Dion Sanders came in and he was a giant jackass, egotistical jerk. I saw Troy Aikman and my BF at the time actually got to meet and talk to him. He said he was really nice. Some of the members of the Grateful Dead came in once too, but not Jerry.
Met the lead singer of Tony C and the Truth and told him he needed to take a lot of vitamins while he was partying on the road...what the fizzle was I thinking?

I forgot one of my favorites! Margaret Atwood walking down St. George street with a lady friend one morning, circa 2005.

I was in a car with Eminem once. And I think I posted about this before, but I met Regina Spektor and Amanda Palmer at the same time in a bathroom a few years ago. Oh! And one time I dropped a bag of sick on Pete Doherty, but that doesn't really count as a 'sighting' as I was working in the bar he was playing a gig in. But still.

I met Prince Philip, circa 2006, I think. He asked me what I was studying, and I'm kinda glad I was still doing history at the time (rather than what I ended up graduating in - Scottish Ethnology - because I wouldn't have wanted to explain that to him). He called my friend a grave digger when he (my friend) said he studied archaeology.
I passed a Proclaimer on Princes Street about 2 years ago (it was during the week of my wedding). I wasn't sure which one it was, since they're twins. (The pisser is that, apparently, Richard E. Grant was in the same area at the same time, but we didn't see him.)
I was in the same room as Kevin Smith at the UK premier of Clerks 2. And on the same day, I was a few feet away from Charlize Theron.
Last year, I was walking into a film screening and walked past Rhys Ifans and David Thewlis. They were the stars of the film I was seeing, and they did a Q&A after the film. They walked right next to me going to/from the front stage-y area. It was awesome, but I was too feart to ask a question or anything.
I've been near other famous people when attending screenings during the EIFF, but I can't remember most of them. I love the film festival.

all I can think of is Patrick Duffy when I worked at a grocery store (he lives here) and Troy Donahue when I worked in a theatre as a teen. I am sure I met other old celebrities from working there but my stupid teenager brain didn't retain much-I just remember my mom and grandma screeching like little fan girls when they heard of Troy Donahue-which was one of the kindest actors I met when working with stagehands.

I ran into Seth Green at Comic Con last year. I figure it counts because he wasn't at a booth or anything, and I wasn't intending to meet him. I had just met the guy who wrote The Zombie Survival Guide and was super excited about it, so I was running around a corner to get Boyfriend and bring him to meet him too. Seth Green was running around the other side of said corner, trying to get away from some shrieking woman. And we slammed straight into each other. I felt bad because he's so little, like my height (and I'm five foot nothing).
I used to see a lot of singers and bands and stuff when I worked at Starbucks. Like poopiebitch, I used to always ask for their names. The best one was this Bollywood movie star who was also apparently Miss World. I genuinely had no idea who she was, other than 'that woman filming some weird Bollywood time travel musical outside our store'. Her minder got really mad at me when I asked for her name and then misspelled it on her Frappuccino.

I was working for a dude who was also a gig promoter, partly responsible for a show Eminem was doing here. The guy was giving me a lift home when he got a call to say something had gotten forked up with Eminem's transport to the gig. Apparently he couldn't just, y'know, get a taxi or whatever so guy had to pick him up and ferry him there himself. 'Cept he didn't have time to drop me home first so I ended up riding shotgun. There you go. I just remembered that Sandy Toksvig once asked me if a flight from London had come in yet at Edinburgh airport. She is wee.
