Well. I've met (my own personal musical hero) Martin Carthy multiple times, although I don't know if that will mean anything to anyone here. My son went to camp with the children of Kevin Bacon, Richard Gere, and - most excitingly! - Christopher Guest, all of whom we saw at Family Day. And my ex-husband (who owns a canoe & kayak business) once sold a canoe to Robert Plant...in fact, Mr Plant, upon hearing that my family lives in Warwickshire, actually invited us to to look him up at his estate in the neighboring county of Gloucestershire the next time we were in England, but my shiftless former partner never did anything about it (and yet the marriage failed). Oh, and I was at Harvard at the same time as Natalie Portman and saw her in Cafe Gato Rojo (scratchy coffee place on campus) a couple of times; she was pretty tiny.

I never actually met the guy, but I've hung out and eaten pizza in the house of the bassist from Greenday.

Funny, I also had a friend who worked with him for a couple shows and told me he was a jerk.

Jenna Jameson at her book signing (there is nothing I can say to defend this). She was really nice. So tiny, like a little mouse with breast implants.

Alton Brown at a Food Network show. Also very very nice. He was the only celeb chef that took the time to stay and chat with and sign every ones stuff that came to see him.

Peaches (the rapper) - before she got big, after a local show here in Cleveland. Also, very nice even though she should have been irritated with me for sneaking behind stage to grab a pic with her.

Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione of the Dresden Dolls- 3 times at different show. Amanda is nice but intimidating. Brian was very sweet.

Joey Fatone of Nsync - stood in an elevator with him at our hotel in Toronto in 1999. I did not know who he was until the elevator door opened to a bunch of screaming girls in the lobby. While he was in the elevator with me (not knowing) I was very irritated that our pizza we had ordered was being help up by all the fangirls surrounding the hotel and I believe I said "Nsync, schmn-sync! I just want my goddamn pizza!"

BJ Novak- (from The Office) met him at a cafeteria in the Chicago airport. He offered his extra chair to me because there was no where else to sit. When I realized who he was, I became all sweaty and creepy and when I returned the chair back to him he was really nice and said "How'd that chair work out for you?" And I was like "It was awesome!" Then I lowered my voice and hovered over him and said "Aren't you on the Office? Me and my dad watch that show every Thurs night together!" And he said yes. I asked for a pic and he was really nice about it. My hand was shaking and my upper lip was so sweaty. God, I am so creepy. He was reading a script to, which was cool.
And then-- mere MINUTES later! who walked passed me but....

Alan Cummings! I had just called my friend to squee about meeting BJ Novak and Alan Cummings walks by me and I basically let out this crazy high pitched "Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii" and flapped my hand in the air and he have me a cool "what's up" head bump thing. It was really surreal.

I think that is it. I will post that pic of me and BJ Novak when I find it.

Oh I saw Kate Hudson at a flee market in NYC once, she was walking with her very tall husband at the time from the Black Crows and she was very very pregnant and wearing a belly shirt, you know, like celebrities do.

Gary Floyd, Tura Satana, John Cameron Mitchell, Linda Blair, Holly Woodlawn, Kirk (Kurt?) Hammett, Nicolas Cage, Tom Waits, the guy who wrote the Celestine Prophecy (who I'm only including because he was on TV and people like Oprah were saying his name at the time, so I guess that makes him famous), Tim Polecat, various porn stars, Dita Von Teese, Dave Navarro, Jello Biafra, Kate Pierson, that Lars dude from Rancid, Quentin Tarantino, George Lucas, Michael Bay, Screech, and the son from Married With Children.

Mine are all really lame ‘celebrities’. I met Kris Akabusi, he came to our school on sports day and we all sat on his knee and had our photo taken.

I saw Bucks Fizz outside the Princes Hall in Aldershot, getting off their tourbus, in the 80s.

I saw Emma Bunton in a petrol station.

I saw the Man Utd football team in Gatwick airport. We spoke to Phil Neville and Paul Scholes. They were arrogant a-holes. Alex Ferguson refused to sign my friend’s book, miserable croissant. I was just disappointed that David Beckham wasn’t there (it was a long time ago).

I am also convinced I saw Eva Longoria in a clothes shop in NYC, my friend says it wasn’t her but I think it was.

It was super surprising because it's not a particularly nice pub, it's the dirty place where all our friend's bands play and they have a $10 dinner menu. We didn't want to be dicks or get up and let our food get cold, so we let him drink in peace. But it was still pretty awesome.

I've met Clive Owen! His mother-in-law used to be my landlady.

I saw Alan Bennett cycling through Camden. The guy I was with shouted "Morning Alan", and though he looked a bit bewildered to be greeted by complete strangers, he did say "Good morning" back.

Years and years ago I saw George Best in the local Woolworths (the woman he was married to at the time had family in our town).

And my favourite (again a long time ago), I once sat next to Roger Daltrey at the theatre.

My friend was on Natalie Portman's flight back from Africa. She stood beside her in the loos and said she was sooo tiny. She also said that there was no fuss around her, if it hadn't been for her 4 tonne body guard you wouldn't have known she was a star. She just tootled onto the plane and quietly read a book.

This friend has seen/talked to lots of famous people. She's known Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol) for years and when she worked for a guitar maker here she was always talking to well known musicians including Damion Rice & the lead singer from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

For my roommate's birthday several years ago, we went to see Chicago with Paige Davis from Trading Spaces... but before that, we stopped to see Hugh Jackman at the stage door for The Boy from Oz and he wished roomie a happy bday and took a pic with her! I got a pic with Paige, then we headed to the theater where Little Shop of Horrors was playing, got last minute tickets, and took a pic with Joey Fatone afterwards (he was playing Seymour). He has on a "Lip Sync" t-shirt in the pic, which I find hysterical.

On the way back to the Port Authority, we stopped at the Wicked stage door and met Joe McIntyre. That was quite a day!

Who else have I met? Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, Neil Patrick Harris, Tom Bosley, Anthony Rapp, Dane Cook, Gary Gulman, Betty Buckley.

As for sightings, I was eating at Zen Palate before a Tori Amos concert and saw Alec Baldwin walk by outside. I also saw the kid who used to play Donkey Lips on Salute Your Shorts in Red Bank for a Kevin Smith signing. He actually used the "do you know who I am?" line to cut to the front... and IT WORKED!

Also, I guess this doesn't technically count because I didn't "meet" him but I was front row at George Carlin about 2 years before he passed away. I could've reached out and touched him, dammit!

Oh I forgot, Ruth Madoc from Hi-de-Hi (showing my age now) is one of my Auntie's good friends. I met her at my Nan's funeral.

Abe Vigoda went to see my mom's band play once.

New York is weird because you just kinda see random famous people walking around all the time, like Moby eating at Counter or you literally bump into Janeane Garofalo at Columbus Circle.

At one of my old jobs I got to show Joan Rivers into the conference room, that was pretty cool!

I've met a lot of Buffy people at Comic Con, including Joss Whedon, which was awesome because he was just walking around. Everyone else I met at an autograph signing, which kind of doesn't count.

One of my favorite celebrity sightings was seeing Christopher Guest and Ed Begley Jr. eating at Real Food Daily in LA. That was the best thing ever!

When I used to be a Michfest regular, I made some connections with various musicians who were just super rad down-to-earth folk: all members of Tribe 8. Slade let me stay with her in SF when I was looking at grad school, all members of the butchies, Nedra Johnson, Nomy Lamm, Gretchen Phillips, Jill Sobule, and many more!

Amy Ray gave me a bag of chocolates once backstage when the Indigo Girls played IU back in 1999. The girl I was dating was good friends with the Butchies and we were able to go. I didn't realize how awesome it was to have a bag of chocolates from a famous person because I wasn't and have never been a huge IG fan. I hid the chocolate for emergency use, ate it in a pre-menstrual fury, then dived into the trash can because I threw away a bag of chocolate wrappers that had been handled by Amy Ray.

Amy thought I was crazy when I asked her to pose with a head. We were waiting in line @ a small club in Ann Arbor when she was touring with the Butchies for a solo run and someone left some head manikin with punky studs on it or whatever sitting on the sidewalk. She walked by when it was sitting there and I asked her to pose with it. Of course she is actually really accessible @ solo shows. When I saw her like 2 years ago in Asheville, I was chatting with friends after the show and she came up to say hi to me!

My friend was sitting in chem-free @ Michfest like 10 years ago, and Alix Olson was right behind her...smoking. When she asked her to leave chem free or stop smoking she got snooty about it.

I almost smashed both bisque and Winona Laduke. I actually almost smashed bisque twice. ooops. I tripped up stairs to turn in a card when Winona was coming down. I then babbled something about how the only time you look cool taking a dive is in beach volleyball! All righty then. I learned my lesson from that one so when I nearly smashed into bisque I just apologized.

I met Dennis Kucinich frequently enough because he'd come into the health food store I worked at.

Kate Mulgrew lives 2 houses down from my HS friend's parents.

That's about all I've got.

I should learn to recognize Andie McDowell because she lives like 10 minutes away and hikes a lot.

I met Dr Drew too! He was doing a signing after his visit to my school. I asked him if he was molested by Freud because I was sick of all his Fruedian explanations.

I forgot that I did meet Exene Cervenka before a show. She told me anecdotes about the Russian women who have moved into her neighborhood. I also met Jonathan Richman before a show at the same club. He was nice but more reserved than Exene who was totally holding court. I met Dave Swarbrick of Fairport Convention but I don't know how many people here know who they are (besides SOS and Desdemona).
When i worked a Star Trek convention I met Walter Koenig, Dave Prowse (the guy in the Darth Vader Suit), Gil Gerard and the captain guy from Lost in Space. I rode in the elevator with Brooke Stevens (who is tiny) at a convention.
My ex meets celebrities by not knowing who they are, only that they look familiar. That's how he had a long conversation with Derek Jeter outside a movie theater here. He also had lunch with Michael Stipe. Bob Pollard of GBV gave him some albums.

After realizing I only recognize maybe 10% of the names in this thread, I wonder how many celebrities I've met without knowing it. Or dropped bags of sick on.

I had to do a project with his son, Jordan, a couple years ago at USC. I didn't even realize it was Dr. Drew's son until someone told me. I was in the middle of writing a furious email to the professor explaining how this kid was NO help on the project and actually took AWAY from it. I had been trying to contact him for two weeks prior to the project being due and he kept blowing me off. The day before the presentation, he starts complaining (via TEXT) about some of my research he didn't agree with and the angle we were presenting it at. I tried calling and he ignored my phone call. He just continued to text me. Then he cut and pasted my research into a powerpoint and called it a day. I was furious.

The day of the research project presentation, I walk in and I hear him whisper to a friend. "Is that her?" He comes up, points to my tattoos and says "Oh, you like buff monster? I had him paint the inside of my room." I ignored him and we did the presentation. It was horrible because he didn't know what he was talking about. What a jerk. The good thing is that the professor ended up giving me full credit and he got "less than that". The professor said he could tell the guy didn't know what he was talking about.

I guess being Dr. Drew's son allows you to be a spoiled brat who doesn't have to do work and can hire famous graffiti artist to paint your room.

I haven't met any celebrities. And I blew my one chance.

My old roommate and I were in Atlanta for Pride, and we were in Little Five Points at Charis (lesbian bookstore) browsing. I was in the political section, and the roommate was browsing the fetish section. I think she came over to show me a particularly cringe-worthy (for me) picture when a woman came up to us and started yelling about Amy Ray. According to this woman, she knew the Indigo Girls personally, knew where their house was, and was prepared to give us Amy Ray's cell phone number. I'm not sure what the point of all this was--was she hitting on us, trying to make friends, recruiting stalkers?--but we just kindof stood there trying to be polite but not really knowing what to say. Eventually, when it became clear that we weren't going to take her up on her strange offers, she wandered off. Then a car drove by blasting Indigo Girls, the music wafting in through the open bookstore doors. We stood there cracking up for a good while, then I bought a book about how much G.W. Bush hates women and we left.

Honestly, that was way more interesting than if we'd actually met Amy Ray.

Some of my better stories.

George Clooney: We were at a taping of the Rosie O'Donnell show and all these women were yelling 'I love you, George!' So I stood up on my chair and yelled 'I only like you George!' Guess who he looked at.

Christian Bale: I was on a first date and we went to a pizza place by the Santa Monica pier. In front of us in line there was a guy holding a little girl. The little girl was smiling at me and I made a goofy face. It turns out the guy with the little girl was Christian Bale.

Macy Gray: I was in line at the Old Navy across the street from The Beverly Center in LA and there was a 6 ft tall woman dressed head to toe in blue. I thought 'that woman looks like Macy Gray, but why would Macy Gray be at the Old Navy?' Then a guy said,'I love your music' and she said 'thank you baby.' And when I heard the voice I knew it was Macy Gray.

Kathy Griffin at a book signing. Tori Amos at a Kevin and Bean (morning djs for an LA radio station) event at a Panda Express in Pasadena. The woman who played Janice on Friends at an art show. Neil Patrick Harris at a TV show taping. I've most likely walked past tons of celebrities while I lived in LA.

So I work security at an amusement park and memorial day weekend we had:
Justin Beiber, Selena Gomez, Rob Schneider, some sports dude I didn't know.
Last year we had Troy Aikman, Russell Simmons, Erykah Badu, Fall Out Boy, Bon Jovi and a bunch of others I can't remember right now. Quite a few country singers that I am not familiar with. I wasn't there when the AI judges (Paula, Randy, Simon) were there a few years ago but there's a picture of them all in the office with all the Security peeps.

In the past I've met/been near:
Paul McCartney, Gwenneth Paltrow, Madonna, Marc Anthony, Spike Lee, David Bowie...that's all I can think of. Most of those were on trips to New York. Except Spike Lee. I saw him in a Truck Stop in the middle of nowhere once. Oh and Beyonce...got to meet here once down in Houston when she was out at the Mall. My friend's daughter got her to sign stuff because she's a HUGE fan.
