that reminds me, I filmed Lisa Suckdog and Dame Darcy a long time ago and need to upload it to youtube. Darcy was screaming at El Duce from the Mentors to get off the stage, it was hilarious.

Hah, I was just about to say 'wow, that's really like little otik' and then I saw that it's called little otik!
That's pretty great.

I like this thread a lot... I'll second Eva Hesse, I think she's fantastic.

Hah! I was just about to mention Little Otik too..... Isn't the way food is shot in that film completely revolting? Great film.

My mother is an expressionist/abstract? painter.

I don't have a very developed opinion about art but I do not enjoy her work or work like it. There's a vast array of famous painters and styles highly praised by people I find uninteresting(not to mention the majority of the stuff in this thread). I want to please my mother and help her in her hobby, but there's no way I'm hanging any of her work on my wall.

I enjoy my time in museums, but the first time I ever spent longer in a museum than my parents/sister was when the Groninger museum had an exposition on Russian landscape artists.
So I really like, you know, that. I suppose.

this, on the other hand, means absolutely nothing to me

Yes! It's fantastic - have you seen his Food short? Some more grotesque greasy gravy puddles and stuff in that.

Also - my boyfriend was showing me Czecholovakian movie posters yesterday. Posters for American films with art by Czech artists.

Right, this was the actual poster for Ghostbusters in Czecholovakia!

And the Disney ones are pretty great too.

I will comment on this thread more later when I have the time, but as of right now I would like to say this is my favorite thread title ever. I picture it being said by Steve Brule.

Yes! So many of these are some of my favorites, especially Sally Mann, Meatyard, Gorey, Brothers Quay, and Arbus.

I also really like Takato Yamamoto and Tim Burton sketches.

...and, of course, I love Takato Yamamoto and Tim Burton sketches, too! I was lucky enough to see the Tim Burton show at MoMa not long ago, and the Quay show a couple years ago in Philly. I have pictures (I was in fan-girl mode the whole time):

yeah, there's a great website called Cinema Poster (http://www.cinemaposter.com/).... there was an exhibition in London recently that I was really sad to miss.

The Polish one for The Birds is incredible.

Check out this weirdly sexual one for The Witches of Eastwick:

I have been spoiled with good art shows this year but the one that sticks out is
Walton Ford's Bestiarium exhibit at the Albertina (one of my favourite museums)
Image

Right now I am really into architecture and photography.
I will go see a Tina Modotti show this week and probably check out the packed Frieda Kahlo exhibit.

I have and will always love Jenny Holzer, Maria Lassnig, Louise Bourgeois, Valie Export, "Die Bruecke" artists, Kokoschka, Alex Katz... there are just too many.

The other day I went to an all female pop art exhibition called Power Up and discovered Jann Haworth's art. She has a great sense of humour!
Image

Later this week there'll be a Martha Cooper show at a small gallery. Cannot wait, I love her work!
