The wikipedia article for this is pretty informative including the fact that one of the rules requires the winner to have his hands in his opponents pants in order to win AND the reason for the length of the pants is Islamic law requires coverage from knee to waist. I'm not sure what Turkish oil wrestling looked like before they wore those pants but I'm guessing it was just as amazing.
Both my husband and I are fans now.
