We saw the first episode, it was pretty good. The kids kind of remind me of Goonies but we'll see what happens :)

Haven't started yet - was planning on trying it in a bit but I might move it up.

I got the Mr and his 13yr old to watch it, they thought it was good. The 13yr old was distracted during it until the wall thing, creeped the hell outta him, me too if I'm honest. I do love the Spielberg feel about it and it's beautifully filmed.

I started watching this today and love it. Even though it doesn't feel original, all the things it reminds me of are things I love (Twin Peaks, X Files, etc), so I'm into it. I watched 3 episodes this afternoon but have a feeling I'll be watching more before bed (maybe a mistake?).

I ended up watching a couple of episodes and I want to see what happens but I think I'll give this one a pass for before-bed watching. The wall thing was so creepy!

They had me at creepy synths, and then Winona Ryder shoplifted my heart.

But: you couldn't just buy a new telephone in 198...3? SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF RUINED.

Watched the first 3 episodes, didn't think I'd like a show based around kids (mostly) but I'm in to it! I want to know what the eff that thing is!

She did buy a new telephone? Although I don't know why she needed one. She called the police _after_ the overload of her telephone. Sure it was a little crispy but it seemed to still work.

LOL'd.

I'm super into this show, I described it to my friend as "X Files meets Freaks and Geeks." I haven't watched the final episode yet, HOW DARE THEY only make eight. But so far, I like it. I'm naturally not a huge fan of Winona Ryder (I grew up in her hometown and went through her high school a few years after she left to be a STAR, so I got kind of sick of hearing about her after a while), but I loved her in this. I thought it was really interesting how the actress who plays El (sp? Elle?) seems to have that same fragile, doe-eyed, Audrey Hepburn-esque beauty that made Winona Ryder so huge in the 80s.

See you couldn't in the UK but I naturally assumed that the States was ahead in the technology stakes and you totally could. Huh.

Yeah, mumbles just ruined this for me! True fact- when my gran died about 10 years ago we discovered BT was *still* charging her for a phone rented in the '80s. State of them.

I am watching the last episode now and have been loving it. It's been a 4 day holiday weekend here and pissing it down (ahhh, Scottish summer!) so I have wheeched right through it all.

You could buy a phone in the US in the 80's. I have a Garfield phone to prove this.

Yeah we had one of those see through phones somehow... must've been my influence. I'm amazed at that teen girl having her own phone because that was pretty rare.

I have watched 1.5 episodes so far and I love it! It reminds me of the Stephen King made for TV adaptations.

You could readily buy a phone post Bell breakup (1984). But I think this show is set in 1983. I THINK.

You could kind of, sort buy a phone before that, but I don't think you'd find them at a general store.

I can't believe there isn't a subreddit dedicated to Stranger Things anachronisms. What is the internet even good for?

I was disappointed that recently my grandma got rid of her old style black phone in her bedroom, that phone must've been one of the rented phones, that thing was at least 50 years old and obviously you could no longer dial from it but it was just there to pick up the other line... for some reason. I don't ever remember having the old style phones in our house we moved into in 1980 but I could be wrong. I could be.

oh GIRL I know that phone (and I hope you still have yours), but that is straight-up 90s.

My thing isn't phones but spotting vintage Pyrex. There's some good ones in this show, and also on The Americans!

I don't know what year they came out but the clear phones were available in the 80s! We might've had a beige one before that like this

My parents still have this phone (I think! They had it recently, at least.).

Yeah, I'm not sure why everyone's confused about the telephone, she did go out and buy a new one the next day at the general store.

I don't think she called the cops after the phone got zapped, though- when Hopper shows up the next day Joyce gives him a hard time about how he's been out of touch for six hours, and he talks about some things that Joyce had relayed to Flo (the dispatcher), but he didn't say how. So maybe Joyce went to the police station in person right after the phone call and told Flo to send Hopper to her house immediately, but Hopper didn't get back to her until the next morning because he was out with the search party.
