I've been laid up with the flu for the past few days, so I've been watching tons of TV. I started watching "The Man in the High Castle" on Amazon Prime streaming and I'd love to talk about it with others. It's so interesting and thought provoking! Who else is watching?

I'm on episode 7 right now. I love the cinematography of the opening credits, they're beautiful! Great show so far.

I didn't really love the pilot; I thought the dialogue was shiitake and I don't care about the characters really. Does it improve, or is that a good representation of the rest of the season?

I wasn't that offended by the beginning but it does pick up after the whole Canon City trip.

I watched Episode 4 last night and found some really interesting parallels between the Prince's assassination and that of JFK. So I double-checked, and the book came out in 1962, the year in which it's set, nearly two years before the JFK assassination. So it's just a weird coincidence, one I'm sure the TV show played up by dressing the Princess in a kimono the exact shade of pink as Jackie O's Chanel suit. But still, kinda interesting!

Yeah they really nailed the aesthetic on the assassination attempt. Very Kennedy-esque. I didn't know the book was published before it actually occurred! I heard though that the show doesn't adhere rigidly to the book - so this actually is in the book version too? Crazy!

The hell was that ending? If you meditate on the power of found objects long enough you can jump dimensions?

Re: the identity of The Man in the High Castle, I think it's

Spoiler: show
Hitler. He lives in a castle on a high mountain peak. Which, apropos, with its masonry and 50 foot ceilings looks like it would be cold AF.

the whole show I was telling my roommate this!!! THE WHOLE SHOW. she's like nah I don't think so even after the finale.

And yes, I was raised in France and it's cold. High ceiling, stone houses or castles, they're cold. at least must not be too humid on the mountain!

We watched the first season and loved it! My partner has read the book and says that it's not very similar to the show. He saw the book as more of a vehicle for discussing philosophical ideas rather than a plot-driven novel, however.

I really enjoyed it, but thought the Juliana and Joe actors were sorely lacking, especially compared to the rest of the cast. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa and Rufus Sewell in particular. I was also iffy on the pilot, but I was sold when Tagomi gave the Nazi officers the side-eye over the conference room decor. I hope his character gets more to work with in Season 2.

Yep, that's Philip K Dick right there.

We're just starting this, I think it's a really interesting idea!

I thought it was great, can't wait for season 2. It's a bit Helen of Troy (a bunch of men doing risky things for one woman), but I enjoyed it because her character is independent and assertive rather than passive.
