I'm getting a new tattoo in a couple of days, in the past I've used Vitamin E oil during the itchy/scabby/healing time. It works well, but it's so gooey it's a huge drag to apply and it takes forever for the skin to absorb it.
The main benefit was that it was vegan.
In the last few years coconut oil has become my go to for pretty much everything, so I was thinking why not this?
Some websites say it'll work great, others tell you not to use it.
Just wondering if anyone has any real life experience with it, or any other vegan non-chemical/petrochemical ideas?
Thanks muchly!

I have. I used miniscule amounts, used a clean plastic spoon to dip out of the jar, and all four tattoos healed up just fine.

I use a vegan cream made by Lush.

This is awesome. I just started using coconut oil for my face and psoriasis and it works wonders. what another great thing to use it for, esp. since I have a ton of tats.

Cool, thanks everyone!
(And yeah, Boneyardpixie- a friend who really suffered from psoriasis started using coconut oil and it turned her whole situation around. She turned me on to it, and I've been addicted ever since!)

I've used unscented lotion for years, and I've never had any issues. Just switched to a vegan one (St. Ives) when the time came.

Anyone know if it works for eczema?

magnet, do you use it on your face?
I have been and noticed that my pores are smaller, but I'm breaking out really bad; however, from what i read that's normal, as my pores were probably clogged and the oil is flushing them out. my skin is def. softer and looks better.

UPDATE!
I ran into a friend today who recently had a half sleeve done, she said she used coconut oil and warned me against it. She uses it every day on her non-inked skin so she figured it would be fine, but it really irritated the tattoo. My session is tomorrow so I did a lil more digging and it turns out that oil on freshly tattooed skin can lift the scab prematurely which causes a lot of itching and can stop the ink from settling in.
It's almost hard to believe there's anything coconut oil can't do, but there we have it!

Boneyardpixie-> Hell yeah, I use it on my face all the time. It's amazing how soft it makes my skin!

Thanks for the info magent. Also, I'm thinking of trying rose hip oil for my face and stick to coconut oil for the rest of my skin. rose hip oil isn't as "heavy" from what i've read and is better for sensitive skin, than coconut oil, plus the rose oil has the same ani-big pore, fine line, and beneficial skin qualities as coco oil.

I've used olive oil for the first few days of both of my tattoos and it's worked great. I just use a tiny bit so it's not super greasy. Plus you smell like a salad.

BYPixie-> I used rosehip oil for a few years, and it really made my face look great. I've now switched to argan oil because I think my skin got used to rosehip and it stopped being as effective. Just wanted to let you know that when you're using rosehip your skin can become more sensitive to the sun, so make sure to always wear sunscreen or a hat if you're out on a sunny day.

UPDATE ON MY TATTOO->

I got it!
I looooooove it!
and, ironically, I used nothing. It's not really bothering me so I'm just letting it do it's thing. It's at the gross stage of scabbing and peeling but I think it's going to heal just fine! :)

I've used ONLY coconut oil for the after care of my tattoo.. and it turned out just fine infact i retained more ink than all my friends who used creams and other products.. it moisturises the skin and prevents bacteria growth.. it depends on your skin i guess.. I works really well from me and speeds up the healing process.. Hope this clears out the negative mindset towards using it for after care..

I wonder how jojoba oil would work on something like that?
