That's closer to realistic. My friend was super excited to hear about the Kickstarter, so I have no doubt they have an enthusiastic audience!

If you want to join the cool kids club with solipsistnation and I, you can preorder Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon on Steam for only $15! It looks totally awesome and you don't need Far Cry 3 to play it!

BLOOD DRAGON.

BLOOOOOOOOOD DRAAAAAAAGON.

It looks thoroughly ridiculous. It's like they said, hey, nobody realized that Far Cry 3 was supposed to be satire, so the next one we do will be SO BROAD you'd have to be that guy who slipped and fell on a power nailer and poked a hole in his forebrain to miss the point.

Say what you will about Tim Rogers-- he's pretty pretentious but he's a snappy writer when he gets down to it.

Here's his Bioshock Infinite review/article:

http://www.actionbutton.net/?p=3006

Assume spoilers although I'm quite a ways in and he's still talking about the box art.

Is Farcry 3: Blood Dragon going to be that price until May 1st? I'm considering buying it because it looks so awesomely cheesy.

Yes, that's the release price. It's not getting a full retail release and it's being treated like a downloadable title, hence the lower price.

Blood Dragon is so forking awesome. I just finished it. It's pretty much the perfect length, just over five hours. It doesn't wear out its welcome. I've read some reviews saying it tries too hard. I'm not seeing it. It's paying homage to a certain aesthetic and playing to a demographic I fit perfectly in. It's parts Terminator, Predator, Robotjox, GI Joe, Robocop, Hardware, and plenty of other references I've forgotten or missed. I loved it.

I was wondering how you liked it. I've been seeing you two playing it all week. Also, your name changed!

It was bad asparagus. I'm going back into Far Cry 3 with more enthusiasm. Even if the setting isn't the same, some of the mechanical stuff I learned playing Blood Dragon makes me feel like I could play Far Cry 3 better for it. Michael Biehn said that it's probably going to get a sequel. I can't wait.

So Target has a few PC games on sale this week and one of them is Far Cry 3 which means it's now cheaper than the Steam price. Are there any disadvantages to having the disc as opposed to just the download?

Hmmmm I guess convenience is about the extent of the differences. The game is tied to Ubisoft's Uplay service, even through Steam, so either way it'll get all of its updates through Uplay. You might even be able to tie the CD key to Uplay, then you'd never need the disc. Otherwise, yeah you would need the disc anytime you wanted to reinstall. But that's about it. There's no Steamworks integration.

I'm enjoying Far Cry 3, I really am, but it's a little bit of a slog. My natural instincts tell me to immediately find the closest radio tower, climb it, then wipe out each outpost I uncovered. Then move on to the next radio tower and do the same thing. Repeat until the island is mine. Then clean up side quests, and path of the hunter, and find lost letters. Maybe pick up some relics that are along the way or explore some ruins if I come across them. Then run the story missions. I'm pretty successfully ignoring the Wanted Dead missions because those are even less interesting than the hostage rescues in Blood Dragon. Spoilers for mid-game content follow.

Spoiler: show
I've "killed" Vaas (not convinced he's actually dead) and I'm on the second island, which is where I'm told the game totally peters out. There's one outpost remaining, but I've done all of the path of the hunter quests, and I think I've only got one more sidequest left. I might just blast through the rest of the game tonight.

I ran into a weird bug, where I'd killed all of the bad guys at an outpost where I triggered an alarm, and killed all of the reinforcements, and it wouldn't trigger a victory. Then I started wandering around the area to see if I'd missed someone, and ended up killing a couple patrols. Then I blew up all of the vehicles in the area. Still no luck, so I moved on. Maybe it's a story-related thing where I have to take over that outpost after a certain mission, or maybe I'll just do it again.

Yeah, it does kind of peter out a bit. You'll get a couple more weird drug trips, I think, and some mighty explosions, and then... the ending. Good luck with that. 8)

Yeah, I wrapped it up. It felt like it was getting close to something great, and then it crapped out. Oh well. It was good, but it could have been great. At least we got Blood Dragon out of it, and I will throw fistfuls of money at Ubisoft for another Blood Dragon.

On another note, everyone should check out the new Humble Bundle at http://www.humblebundle.com/ . Then you can play Proteus and Dear Esther back to back! Then beat people to death with a pipe in Hotline Miami! And burn all of your toys in Little Inferno!

Alan Wake is on the weekend sale for $3 so if you missed it from HB, you can still buy it now!

I caved and joined in the trading cards beta. I don't really have much interest in measuring my e-genitals or trading with people to make my e-genitals larger but it is an interesting concept and Jeff Gerstmann had some positive things to say about it on last week's Bombcast. I have invites if anyone else wants in.

The new profile stuff is kind of neat.
