Steam is a platform for the PC (and Mac, I guess) that sells and facilitates gaming! And the PPK has an unofficial presence on it!

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/theppk

It's an open group so anyone can join, and every now and then one of us admins will organize some kind of event! They're mostly centered around Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 but other games are definitely not out of the question. We're noob friendly and not competitive in the slightest, so don't let a fear of multiplayer crassholes scare you off!

Use this thread to organize games, or share awesome sales!

2013 winter sale discussion begins here

Nice! I just snagged L4D2 during the recent sale & have yet to play. I hope my poor laptop can handle it.

I bought some kind of pack of Civilization games during that big sale awhile ago. I played it obsessively for awhile while I had a job where I just had to sit around doing nothing without Internet access, but haven't really kept that up.

I too got in on the Civ 4 pack! I'm not really a Civ kind of guy but every now and then the moment catches me and I play the hell out of it for a day.

Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY edition for less than $14 this weekend! If you haven't played it, you should!!! It's easily one of the best comic book licensed games of all time!

Always gotta get the Mac jab in, eh?

You would no doubt appreciate the link I posted somewhere recently about a study showing that iphone users* are crassholes.

I LOVE Civ. I am looking forward to Civ V; I just hope it works on my system. Fun (dorky?) fact: I have my own imdb page because of all the computer games I used to beta test (including Civ).

I have a Steam account and looooove Left 4 Dead, but I play it on the BF's computer. He says my computer probably can't run it. It's a 3 year old Dell, and we updated it earlier this year. I have no idea how to tell if my compy meets any requirements, so I've never downloaded anything. N00b.

Give it a shot! You may be surprised, Left 4 Dead is built on a six year old engine and it's rather versatile.

So when I asked him about L4D last night, he said to try it out, but not to expect it to run as smoothly or look as good as it does on his computer. I don't so much care about that. I care about shooting zombies.

I downloaded it today as a bundle with L4D2, and it works fine. I joined the group too.

Arm yourself against the infected, our (L4D1) escape begins 1200am GMT, 30 October 2010!

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/theppk ... 6576018433

The Sacrifice is a definite, a full chronological campaign run if interest is there, versus mode if we go over 4 players! Bring your headset, chat room and comms checks begin 30 minutes prior to start! Every member online at 1130pm GMT will get an invite into the chat room. If you can't play or don't have L4D1, just say so or ignore the invite. I call dibs on Bill!!!!

You don't HAVE to have L4D1, we'll get a L4D2 event soon enough, but more people own L4D1 so that's why we're playing it this time.

Aw, snap!
That's the night of my roommate's best friend's Halloween party. Oh, well. I'll make the next one. By then, maybe I'll have a headset (i.e. steal the boy's) and remember how to play better than I played this afternoon.

Was fun, When you left after the first game, I think there was interest to do this again, /hint /hint.

Oh yeah, I didn't see this until after it was apparently over.

I don't have a lot of time, what with chasing the baby and all, but I'd be up for some L4D1 (which I've played ONCE before, making me a TOTAL EXPERT) or something. I'll even drag out my headset for the voice chattin' and stuff.

We are DEFINITELY doing this again! Versus is soooo much fun! It'd probably be a little better if I'd known the campaign before playing it but whatevs. If any of you have a more preferred time, I'll try to schedule the next event around it. Otherwise, expect to do this again next week! L4D2 next time!

My internet is out. We didn't get a warning, or anything, they just turned it off. I hate Comcast.

Anyway! I tried to play L4D1 yesterday when I was home, but Steam wouldn't load at all. I thought you could still play in offline mode. Hmmmm....

Post subject:  Re: The Steam PC gaming thread!

Offline mode is particularly sketchy. It actually requires forethought into when your internet connection is going to go out. How it works is when you think you're going to lose internet connectivity, or if you're planning on an internet outage, you open up Steam and go into offline mode. Then, and only then, will it download your privileges and allow you to play your games without an internet connection. For up to 90 days.

Post subject:  Re: The Steam PC gaming thread!

I took my laptop to a place with internet, started up Steam, and let it do whatever update it needed to update. When I came back home, I tried it again, and it worked fine. Didn't save any achievements I may have earned, but I didn't really care about that anyway. I did notice that it was a little jumpy without a connection. BUT! Internet is back, now. Yay!

I still hate Comcast.

Yeah, it's a bummer that the cheevos don't work in offline mode but it's better than nothing!

Didn't see this when I did the first search and started a new thread, whoops.
Anyone who's on steam post it up!

The PPK steam group.

Let us know what games you like to play, what sale stuff you picked up and what sales you are hoping for!

My Steam name is the same B.A.D. because i'm lame (profile link in the name).

I'm mostly into FPS and indie games. Love anything by Valve and survivor horrors.
Tended to play l4d 1 and 2 alot and COD. Recently Beat Hazard, audio surf, etc.
I recent got Eufloria, Machinarium, reckless disregard for gravity and Poker night at the inventory on sale.
Excited to see the x-mas sales this year.
