Starts tonight at 10EST on A&E. Anyone planning to watch? I've been really curious but I don't know if I'll be able to stay up for the whole thing. It looks pretty intense.

Ok, so, wow. This show is seriously freaky/creepy/horrifying. I am so nauseated and generally stressed out. And yet I'm curious to see what happens. Dammit!

I really want to watch this, but I can't stay up that late on Monday nights! Gonna have to make time for it on On Demand or something...

A woman gets violently raped in the very first episode? fork NO. I'm sick of this lazy bullshiitake in horror. The show wasn't impressive at all. I guess they're going for a modern time period but with nostalgic influences? It doesn't even make sense. I imagined the mother to be much more "motherly"- this isn't at all how I pictured Norman and his mother to be.

I knew about the rape beforehand, so I was able to skip that scene when it happened. Other than that I thought it was good, except that I didn't know beforehand that it was present day, since the review I read described it as a prequel. The first time someone pulled out their cell phone I was all, what? It's interesting how except for a very few things like the cell phones, you wouldn't necessarily be able to peg it as any specific decade. I'll keep watching for now.

It's not just about me not seeing the rape, it's that it's a lazy element to add to any horror media and completely unnecessary. I am SO sick of seeing women getting the brunt of violence and sex in horror. It's not original, it's not important to the story, it adds nothing of any substance to this show.

I agree, except I thought it WAS going to be important to the story this time - I thought Norman was not going to be able to save her because he had snuck out, and then she would see that as justification to never let him do anything again. Of course, they didn't have to make it a rape that he had to save her from, but the fact that he had to save her was important.

I think it will still play out that way - Norman didn't stop the rape from taking place and would have if he had been in the house. But I agree, I hate that it was a rape. I was really hoping Norman would get there just before the guy actually got to rape her, but they let it go just a little too long. The whole argument about him letting her be attacked would stand.

I'm also really curious about the book.

The plot keeps thickening in this show and I'm digging it. It seems like many of the main characters have a dark side. It's keeping me on my toes & is helping me with my American Horror Story withdrawal.

i watched it all. i dislike norma so much, and i spent most of the season wanting to scoop norman up like a lost kitten and rush him right out of there. it's been made clear that whatever his deal is, it goes beyond their relationship, but at the same time the question of whether things would have gone as bad as they did if she'd been a different mother or if he'd been in a different environment is wide open. i like the way the show demands sympathy for different characters and then makes you uncomfortable about feeling it.

i really like that they've maintained a 1960s aesthetic in the wardrobes and decor even though it's set in the present day. it's an interesting way of maintaining continuity, and it helps to create the feeling that this town is sort of separate from the rest of the world.

I watched the entire season, but don't think I'll be watching next season. The entire thing was just, awkward, for me. Norma got so damn annoying in the last few episodes I could barely stand to watch and it seemed 90% of the show was pointless filler. Meh. I had such high hopes for this :(
