So, I looked into this again at the end of last year but got scared off by the fact that they encourage advertising/book promoting. I dislike having things pushed upon me. How does that work?

I don't find this happens at all, I don't notice the ads. Some smaller authors do friend request because they want to push their book, but I don't add authors (unless I know them). And you can set a friend request question, and I find people who are just out to build their friend numbers or push books won't answer and you can deny them. Also, I have my profile set to private.

Goodreads is great for stats, like how many books a year you read, how you rated them, the longest and the shortest book you read etc. You can organise your to-read shelf so you know what you want to read next. I have shelves for genre, year, publisher, books for review, library books, books I borrowed from friends, fun reads, emotional reads, Aussie books, vegan cookbooks etc

Join us ;)

I'm updating mine a lot recently because I want to read 150 books this year! I also just noticed that Goodreads tells you whether you're on track with your yearly goal which is very cool.

I haven't been using it because I've been using Amazon wish list to list the books I want to read. Maybe I should though. I just updated with some recent reads:

And right now, I'm adding a bunch of historical fiction to my list but I'm open to almost anything.

I think I will have to delete my account now that amazon bought goodreads :( Super sad about it. And I guess they own the database with my 600 books reviewed anyway.

That sums it up nicely

"Call it The New American Dream. But to sell out to the corporation that is well on its way to monopolizing the book publishing industry and wiping out community booksellers, with all the awful homogenization and loss of diversity that this entails? You can put all the smiley faces on it that you want. It is what it is. I'll take my leave. Goodbye, Goodreads.

So, I actually got another goodreads account despite hating amazon. I just found no good alternative. Which is a lame excuse. But I felt I was the only one who cared about the amazon overtake anyway.

i just love the reading challenge so much...

I recently got right back into it, and I love it. If you want to add me, be warned that I love YA and I don't read very serious books https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/801500-becca

So. . . I added a whole mess of you until I got cut off for reaching my limit after ndpittman. Oops? I forgot to add a message to a bunch of you, but I'm oddspongeout and, I promise, not a creeper. At least I don't think.

I love Goodreads!

Mine is lavawitch (tough one, I know). I don't add all my trashier stuff because I generally read those in a couple hours and forget about them, but I could if others want recommendations.

It's annoying that now i keep getting reminded that I'm slacking on Don Quixote.
