So, I looked into this again at the end of last year but got scared off by the fact that they encourage advertising/book promoting. I dislike having things pushed upon me. How does that work?
I don't find this happens at all, I don't notice the ads. Some smaller authors do friend request because they want to push their book, but I don't add authors (unless I know them). And you can set a friend request question, and I find people who are just out to build their friend numbers or push books won't answer and you can deny them. Also, I have my profile set to private.
Goodreads is great for stats, like how many books a year you read, how you rated them, the longest and the shortest book you read etc. You can organise your to-read shelf so you know what you want to read next. I have shelves for genre, year, publisher, books for review, library books, books I borrowed from friends, fun reads, emotional reads, Aussie books, vegan cookbooks etc
