Hello all,

I'm sorry to swan in here after being gone for so long, but I wanted to let the PPKers know that my debut novel Vermilion is out next week! It's an adventure tale, specifically a Steampunk-y weird western, with a lady lead, and lots of ghosts, monsters, and other fun stuff, like Taoist geomancy and the Rocky Mountains.

I mention it here because there's definitely a vegetarian element to Vermilion, at least tangentially. The cognitive dissonance surrounding consuming meat is definitely an issue in the latter half, so I figured that might be of interest to this community.

Right now the ebook is pre-orderable on Kindle (Amazon), but hard copies should be available soon, via Amazon, B&N.com, and a few other online retailers. It should be in some brick and mortars, but you might have to ask for it by name, but it is distributed though it's out through a small press. You can also still pre-order via my publisher, and there's a deal--you get a free ebook with purchase of the hard copy. Those are already shipping, so you should see it soon if you pick it up!

Anyways, the buzz has been pretty great so far--starred review in Publishers Weekly, and a few more sites are hailing it as pretty sweet, if critical reception matters to your reading choices!

Plus... the cover...

Thanks, all!

It just got a starred review in Library Journal, too... I'm pretty stoked!

Barnes & Noble has the full text of both under Editorial Reviews: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/vermilion-molly-tanzer/1121721080?ean=9781939905086

It's also up for pre-order (physical copies) on Amazon now! http://www.amazon.com/Vermilion-Molly-Tanzer/dp/1939905087/ref=sr_1_1_twi_2_pap?ie=UTF8&qid=1428850157&sr=8-1&keywords=vermilion+tanzer

Okay, I'm done now. :D

Thanks so much you guys! I'm sorry to spam you but I'm so excited. It took a long time for the book to find a home, because it is admittedly super-weird. But... OMG it's my DEBUT NOVEL and people who read lots and lots of books think it is good! :D

Totally! I imagine it's about the best feeling!

(A feeling I hope to experience one day.)

daaaang, those reviews are so good! so happy for you!

and i preordered from amazon! This is so up Eppy's Dungeon Master's alley. I know I'll like it, too, but wild west and ghosts are two of his favorite things.

Spam would be if you threatened to flounce if we didn't like your FB page or retweet you. This is a genuinely amazing and wonderful thing, and we are super happy for you!

(It's inspiring too! I've been stupidly sitting on a novel I finished writing three years ago that already went through rigorous rewriting and editing by my thesis advisor and a second reader, and haven't made any effort to send it to a publisher while all my former classmates are on published book three or four. Pathetic.)

Vijita, it's not pathetic! You just have to be ready. I mean, I think my best friend has published... three novels in the five years it took to get Vermilion from 1st draft to on the shelf? But, best of luck with it--and Footface, you too! Yay, PPK writers!

By the bye, there's a goodreads giveaway from now until the end of the month(you could get a free copy!): https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show ... y_approved

and another giveaway here, on an interview I did with Fantasy Literature. You have to comment, and be in the US, to be eligible, and I'm not sure when it closes: http://www.fantasyliterature.com/author-interviews/molly-tanzer/

This sounds really good! I'll check it out!
Will B & N have it as eBook? I don't have a kindle, but another e-reader...can you get regular e pubs from Amazon?

Epub should be coming soon from B&N, and I assume that soon my publisher will de-bundle the ebook from the print, and you can get it that way. I'll keep an eye out and come back when I know something--thanks!

By the way, your guest post on Chuck Wendig's blog is fantastic: http://terribleminds.com/ramble/2015/04 ... vermilion/

The "thewsy barbarian" line nearly made me choke. I've been obsessed reading about the Hugo debacle, and that's probably the pithiest summary of the Sad Puppies I've seen yet.

Thanks so much!

Haha, yeah, I am tired of the Puppies. I'm not as up on the controversy as some, but I've seen some appalling behavior from both the Sad and Rabid camps. Obviously the Rabids are objectively worse, but the Sads should just call themselves Spineless Puppies, the way Torgerson is just embarrassing himself flopping around these days.

Ugh!

Featured on NPR too! http://www.npr.org/2015/04/22/400178830 ... e-old-west

"If ever a standalone novel cried out to become a full-blown series, this is it. But even if this tale of the Weird West winds up being Lou Merriwether's only adventure, it should go down as a legendary one: Vermilion is a unique, hearty, thought-provoking romp that rewrites history with a vivacious flourish."
