That sounds really interesting. So even if you don't stop the e-book at the end of a chapter, can you save it at the end of a paragraph? (I imagine the end of a page is often mid-sentence and not a great stopping place. But I don't know much about e-books.)

If the books have the Amazon syncing, you can stop at the end of a sentence, I think. Or maybe it goes back to the most recent paragraph. It doesn't repeat more than a few seconds. It's pretty much glorious for longer books.

I just finished "Not forgetting the whale" by John Ironmonger. I loved it! It's about a man who washes up a beach in Cornwall and the same morning a whale is seen in the harbour. It's the perfect blend of apocalyptic scenarios (he's afraid of having caused a global financial crisis), the little things of living in a small village (population: 307, now 308), logic and correlations and catastrophes and happy endings. Absolutely recommended.

Yesterday I started "All the light we cannot see" at the bookstore, it's quite nice so far but I'm only on page 38.

I just finished Holly Black's Tithe which is a book I started reading in Highschool (?) at a friends house and for years would pick back up and read a bit but never really finished. So when I found it while unpacking I buckled down and now I need to unpack more books to keep reading.

Just got The Hanging of Angelique by Afua Cooper out of the library, so far I cannot put it down.

I've been reading the detective series by Robert Galbraith (actually JK Rowling) Finished Cuckoos Calling over the weekend, and am now most of the way through The Silkworm. I'm next in line for Career of Evil on the library's ebook loan list, so hopefully that'll pop up on my reader soon.

They're fun reads. It's not Harry Potter, but it's also a lot better than a Casual Vacancy, which I found readable but nothing to get excited about...

I've gotten lots of great recommendations over the years from here (Living Room in general). Including Vermilion which I'm finishing up now! Sad to see this thread die.

Let's keep it alive then. I just finished Orphan X which was brilliant, just starting Ice like fire by Sarah Raasch

Can we set up a group on Goodreads? I haven't looked at what's available beyond the friend function.

I set one up and sent out some invitations. My iPad isn't letting me select the full invite code. I set it to private for now, but I'll add anybody who wants as a moderator.

I haven't used goodreads in probably longer than I've been on this forum but I will dig out my account tomorrow! I don't even remember my username.

I have been having a great reading summer! My greatest discover was audiobooks. I drive often for work and audiobooks have made commuting my favourite thing about my job! Often I listen to a book during the day and read it at night--I really like the unique experience of devouring it in two different ways. Recent read/listens are The Sympathizer (amazing), Fifteen Dogs (the author narrates and does an exceptional job), and now I am listening to Fugitive Pieces because I read it ages ago and remember how poetic the writing was--it's an interesting one to have on in the car. Last night I read two graphic novels: Angel Catman (Atwood!!!) and Spain & Morocco.

I have the new Jonathon Safran Foer lined up to read.

When you say you listen to a book during the day and read it at night, do you listen up to, say, chapter 10 and then read from chapter 11 onwards at night? Or read the parts you have already listened to? Or can you listen to a whole book in one day's worth of commuting?

I missed this! I listen while commuting and read at night. It's really weird and kinda cool. I pick up on entirely different details depending on the medium.

My commute just extended by about two hours a day so I am going to need to get some books!

I'd like to join the goodreads group too once a link is posted. I wonder if that will be a good space for cookbook reviews too?

Sweet! I've been getting into using Goodreads more recently, so I sent a request to join the group. I'm already friends with a bunch of PPKers over there, but would love to be friends with more of y'all!

It's called PPK Readers. I added everybody I could as a moderator--I just thought best to keep closed since we already know each other, but I'm not interested in having it controlled or anything. Some people couldn't get moderator status because of an email problem.
