is anyone else watching (or have already watched) this amazing british crime drama?

if you like sherlock, or the wire, or idris elba, you should check it out! in typical english fashion, the entire first season is only 6 episodes long, and there is a second "series" planned which will be 2 episodes long. OH BRITISH, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND YOUR SHORT-ASS SEASONS but i love you so hard anyway.

part of me likes it, because it's unrealistic to expect television writers to make a 20+ episode arc that sustains the attention of their audience, and i know that writers struggle with this all the time and american tv is going towards shorter seasons for that reason, or dividing the season in half with a very long hiatus in the middle.

but 6 episodes! and i couldn't watch the 3rd ep of luther because i realized 5 minutes in that it was going to be a lot of sadistic man-on-woman torture and i can't watch that before i go to sleep. like i really need to see MORE men hurting women on television, seriously, no thanks.

I just like shows that are consistently good AND I like being able to finish a season in a short amount of time, especially if it's an addictive show. If Vmars only had 6 episodes a season I never would have spent multiple days watching 12 hours in a row!

I really enjoyed Luther. And not just because of Ruth Wilson.

As for the 6 episodes / 2 episodes series..... 6 episodes is standard for TV programmes here. And it's pretty standard for crime dramas to be shown as two-parters. Each of those two episodes will most likely be feature length.

Necropost!

Is anyone still watching this? I really want to talk to someone about what just happened. (We're on series 3, episode 3).

do you have verizon fios? we just switched to it and didn't pay for the upgrade to get BBC-A, but for some reason we can watch BBC-A on demand! so we were able to watch Doctor Who the next day. I'm just hoping Luther is on demand, too!

Also, it's super annoying that it doesn't come in the standard package! i hated Time Warner, but at least I could get Cooking Channel and BBC-A :(

Oooo. I rented seasons 1 and 2 over the Spring. So, so, so good. Excited for S3 to make it here and the apparent film-in-the-works!

On what channel is BBC-A on demand? I can only find the regular one and the HD one. I wonder if FIOS will let you add one channel at the time, instead of forcing you into some big package even if you want just one..

That's what I was talking about! Once I got over it, I realised that it was totally the next step in the plot for a show like this (especially after what had come before - Luther encouraging him and being really nice and such), but when it happened, I was devastated. I almost cried, and I'm on antidepressants that make me nearly emotionless.

I'm so looking forward to tonight! I have to wait for it to be on iPlayer, so I don't get to see it until about 10.30.
