I don't care about comic books, superheroes, video games, or nothin.

But Guardians of the Galaxy was some kinda good.

I've got to see that this weekend. I'm glad comics-based movies are getting enough critical mass for producers to risk money on something other than rebooting the same tired franchises.

ETA: Also, reportedly, it passes the Bechdel test.

Hm, yeah. I think it does!

We saw it today. I thought it was pretty great. Plus

Spoiler: show
the bad guy was ultimately defeated by the power of friendship. It's just like My Little Pony!

I loved it! I also loved that the number of humans in the movie can be counted on one hand, and it opened a lot of doors to weird Marvel stuff. We saw it at the drive-in though, so all of the dark scenes were particularly dark, and the post-credits scene
Spoiler: show
was entirely washed out by headlights so I couldn't even tell it was Howard the Duck.

Oh yeah, and Lloyd Kaufman as an extra in the prison! At first I thought it was Mel Brooks. So many recognizable actors with small parts. Kirk from Gilmore Girls!

That's James Gunn's brother! He did a lot of the motion capture too so he's actually in pretty much every scene of the movie. Apparently Nathan Fillion passed on having a minor role in the film so he could hopefully score a bigger part in the Marvel universe later.

I was disappointed that there was no phallic worm monster thing. James Gunn is really fond of those.

i enjoyed it very much. how many movies can you say bring on the waterworks in the first few minutes. (let alone funny movies)

Spoiler: show
i wonder if karen gillan is going to come back at all. that's some serious dedication to shave off all the hair that you're well known for, let alone having to shave it again for a sequel. badass.

oh, me too! and ijdi is totally right. he is just as loveable but more dashing and less dopy than he is on Parks & Rec.

We saw the movie Friday and my boyfriend is going again tonight with his brothers. I'm a little jealous!

I liked it a lot. I especially liked that they didn't Gimlify Rocket--the usual Hollywood treatment would have him playing the comic relief, but he's one of the more human characters in the thing.

Also: baby Groot.

But:
Spoiler: show
I didn't really need to see Howard the Duck.

Ok, I hope you enjoy the hot woman-on-duck sex scene.

Also: did it bother anyone else that we're supposed to believe his Walkman didn't eat that tape after 20 years?

howard the duck was the only movie with a love scene that my parents didn't make me turn off when i was a kid. because people making out is inappropriate, but alien bestiality is a-ok? *shrug* parents; they're silly.

i don't have anything to add about guardians, but i'm happy to hang out here and talk about howard until someone gives him his own long-overdue thread.

I had a huge crush on Lea Thompson after I saw Back to the Future. For like a year. And then I saw Howard the Duck and my whole life was ruined.

Haven't seen it yet but will be going next week, but I just wanted to say that I'm a little bitter that they threw in Howard the Duck but not Captain Marvel.

I can't find any way to watch Howard the Duck for free online, which is outrageous. So I guess my idea for a minute-to-minute analysis of Howard the Duck thread will have to wait until I can find a copy of it at the bottom of a toxic waste dump or in a dead child molester's VHS collection.

Wait, that kind of implies that I spend a lot of time looking through the VHS collections of dead child molesters, which I assure you I do not!
