I feel like we need a Lore thread because after every episode I listen to I feel like I have sooo much to say. The episode about Robert the doll was particularly terrifying. Broken Fingernails was super creepy too, and I had to stop Bite Marks and save it for the next day since it was too late for me to listen to without getting scared.

The one about lighthouses (Ropes and Railings?) really lingered with me for a while.

Spoiler: show
Especially the end story, where the surviving lighthouse keeper was isolated for months at a time because every time a rescue ship got near, the dead body lashed to the side would "wave" them away. Horrifying.

New Lore today! All about zombies, yikes! As in the traditional, root-of-the-concept zombies in Haiti. Fascinating and horrifying stuff.

Ropes and Railings is next in my queue. I really want to listen to it, since Aaron's voice is so soothing and I love the music in the episodes. But the subject manner is probably not what I need after a day like today and so close to bed.

Decisions.

Lore and the Black Tapes podcasts are daylight only podcasts for me. Particularly since I walk home from work in the dark in the winter... so nope, daylight only! I just listen to the Nerdist at night, way lighter. BTW anyone listen to the other podcasts associated with the Nerdist?

I'm working my way through the series "Charles Manson's Hollywood" from the podcast You Must Remember This.

The first episode kind of dragged for me but once the premise was established I got into this! I'm catching up on season 1 now.

Am I really dense (yes, but moving on)? Is there a way without Itunes to listen to podcasts on my laptop and I am just missing it? Soundcloud? The podcasts websites? Is there something easier?

That might be something for the Stitcher radio app? Otherwise I would suggest either soundcloud or the websites!

Yes. Once I got into the second episode I was sold. The voice acting is a bit iffy for me, it sounds amateurish like an old school radio drama but I guess I should be happy for that - it sounds just fictional enough that I am not completely scared out of my wits currently.

Am I not going to get closure on the story of Tall Paul though? It sounds like they are moving on to a new story in the next ep but I want to know how they're going to deal with that creepy fellow!

Me too- the one thing that kind of spoils the illusion are how many Americans in the show seem to have Canadian accents!

Sometimes the voice acting makes me laugh, but well, it's nice free entertainment!

I do agree that the first episode is not great. I downloaded the black tapes along with the message at the same time. I started episode 1 of the black tapes and could no understand what it was about in the first 5 min so I switched to The Message, and was hooked on that. When I finished it, I went back to the Black Tapes and enjoyed it. I just had to get passed the sense of not getting what they were saying and doing, then it was good.

I finally started Lore (tons of issues syncing my MP3 player to iTunes lately) and it's great!

The Message, eh? I will check that one out! I've also recently subscribed to the No Sleep podcast- if anyone enjoyed reading the "search and rescue" stories from r/nosleep this past Halloween, you will enjoy this! It's the best of r/nosleep reenacted as radio plays with professional voice actors. I like it because I don't have to sift through the less-entertaining stories in r/nosleep and because being forced to listen to actors makes me take it slowly and savor the thrill. They have a free podcast but you can also subscribe for longer podcasts with more stories (including search and rescue!).

I'm going to check The Message out too.

I don't know if I could handle No Sleep.

Erika how are you listening to the No Sleep podcast? When I look for it I'm seeing a podcast called No Sleep (icon of a bed with the no sign over it) but the episode titles don't seem correct, so my guess is that one is just some random dude talking about how he can't sleep.

Weird, I'm just getting it off iTunes. It's one word, NoSleep. The logo is a night sky with a full moon

Listened to almost all of The Message on my way home (long drive, ugh) so I finished it while making dinner. I liked it a lot until the very last few minutes when it got a bit hokey. Definitely sucked me in enough that when a Star Talk episode started by accident, I yelled "no no no!" and changed it.

The voice acting is 1000000000x better than Dark Tapes.

Finding I like fictional, story telling podcasts more than I thought I would be.

I agree with you. The end is a bit rushed... but the story is still entertaining!

And I feel just the same, I never thought I'd like fictional story telling in podcast form... yet I totally do!

My friend just told me of "we're alive" I guess it's more of a theater radio than a traditional podcast... but it's promising and there's like 45 episodes...

Can anyone recommend any non-English podcasts? I'm looking for French or German ones, mainly. It's hard to know where to start without finding a lot of rubbish.
