It is just something that really takes a strong stomach. I am fairly non-squeamish but it is pretty horrid. I watched earthlings for the first time for like 30mins, couldn't watch more, the second time i went from that point until the full hour, haven't finished the whole thing ever since.

The Lucky Ones by Julie Brown was really good. It's written by the founder of Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary and it's very sweet and funny. Also, Consider the Lobster is a really interesting essay by David Foster Wallace, which is also available online: http://www.gourmet.com/magazine/2000s/2 ... he_lobster .

In 4 weeks it will be 9 years of my veganism, and I have never watched Earthlings. Isn't is supposed to be watched by non-vegans?

I loved Consider the Lobster.
I've watched Earthlings 2x. It definitely helped with my resolve to be a vegan at the beginning. My stepsister watched it and freaked out at the horror. She literally wrote a screed on their FB page about how they should have intervened to stop the cruelty, but never made the connection that that is the reality of fatory farming and stopped eating meat. So yeah.

I've watched Earthlings twice. Once about 6 months before I went ovo-lacto and once 6 months later when I started to cheat on ovo-lacto.
I started watching it recently with a friend who couldn't understand why I cared and we turned it off after 20 minutes. It was too intense. I don't really think I'll ever watch it again but I'm glad I did.
I'm going through the same reading/watching phase! My favourites have been Eating Animals (I've loved that book for years) and Vegan for Life. I'm also currently reading The Omnivore's Dilemma because I think that it's good to consider both sides of the argument.
And watch Vegucated! For me I knew most of the info presented but it's good to see that people can do it even if they loved animal products.

Peaceable Kingdom is pretty good, from the perspective of farmers. There are some brutal bits for sure, but probably not nearly as bad as Earthlings (which I am too scared to watch). It kindof gets into the problems with humane farms or happy meat, as well as the mental/psychological damage people do to themselves in order to justify factory farms and whatnot.
