Yes. Of course. I saved that one on my phone as soon as I saw it.

But do you see what I mean? Her face is looking like her old face!

I know it's been years now since she changed, but I still haven't gotten over it.

It was interesting reading what the author says about rote learning. She is in favor of it overall (as am I for critical things like math facts) but questioned having to memorize the Beaufort wind scale and the density ranges of limestone, in 7th grade.

Holy cow, I'm lucky if I can get two kids out of 32 to remember what density is and that basalt is denser than granite, thus explaining why the ocean floor is lower. One out of 30 might get a very general multiple choice question about the Beaufort scale correct.

I know. I know.
I have very strong feelings about Jung Yong Hwa's snaggle tooth. Very strong.

I know that the Korean method of learning foreign languages isn't too useful. It's all memorization (which is, of course, necessary) and little or no speaking or listening. So after years and years of formal English instruction, most Koreans can't speak English.

But this method is probably not unique to Korea.

If either of you two are bored enough sometime, could you cobble together a ~20 song intro to k-pop for me? Stuff I can get on iTunes.

I guess when you combine sexism, a career in entertainment, and a strong and pervasive "beauty culture," it shouldn't be surprising that she got so much plastic surgery. Throw in being told so often that she was ugly and a mother who suggested she do it, and I guess it's no wonder she did.

I would love to. It wouldn't be "scholarly" (here are the 20 most influential songs), so much as "20 songs Footface likes."

I don't I-tunes, so I wouldn't know what is available there, but I would get you a (probably much more bubblegum) list of songs I don't go without.

I am learning two (Hindi and Korean) and I have no one to speak either with. So I do have to rely on heavy rote learning. One thing Shorty and I is to have her speak in Spanish and I answer in Korean as best I can. So by default we are both learning at least a little of a new language.

Works for me! It's just a very foreign genre for me, so I wouldn't know where to start. Plus, I tend to like what you've posted here. I even bought a couple. I like catchy stuff.

Check out italkti! It's the beesknees. You can find either real teachers/tutors, or just a random person who likes tutoring. Either way, it is pretty cheap. My Icelandic lessons are $15/hr.

Footy kindly hooked me up with a list so I can check out k-pop the lazy way! I found everything he recommended on iTunes, so I'll try out the playlist tomorrow on my way home from work!

Maybe you will have another convert here. Songs being in Korean won't hinder my enjoyment--since I'm an opera fan, I'm used to listening to things in languages I can't understand. (Also, I love Eurovision)

Right on! I find that for me, listening to anything in a language other than English is helpful as I am less likely to bust out singing. Only that works less well as I am learning enough Korean (and Hindi) to just start singing. And, of course I have stuff on loop so I hear certain songs like five times a day.

I should have included "Monster" by EXO on the list.

Oh, nope. But I must have added it myself, because I have it!

I think I should have included Winner's "Empty" and "Sentimental," too.

I do, too.

I feel bad for her, though. I just don't see it happening for her here, and there won't be a 2NE1 to go back to.

CL is coming to Seattle! On Halloween! It's the second or third date of her "Hello, bisques" tour.

Tickets start at $75. Is it worth it? Would I ever have another chance to see her?

What?!?! Why are you even asking?

GO!

I mean I almost spent $1000 to see Big Bang (In Vegas). $75 is a deal.

I once spent $700 for 3rd row Madonnna tickets. Worth every penny. I actually ended up getting most back by reselling my 2nd ticket but even if I'd been stuck with the cost, I'd have been happy. Out of money, but happy.

If you can afford it, I'd go for sure.
