S3 is on in the UK right now, there will be spoilers in this thread ;)
I've only watched the first ep and loved it! I was so happy to see Matthew and Mary together and I have a really bad feeling about Bates.
Also, poor new tall guy.

But anyway, it's fine to have a season 3 thread. ANyone who hasn't seen it yet just doesn't have to read it. Then when season 3 starts here we can just add to the original downton thread or start a new season three thread or just start posting from the last page of this thread without reading earlier posts. anyway, it's mod approved.

I was just being a jealous brat because we can't watch it yet. I'm fine with people talking about it. Just gonna steer clear so nothing gets ruined for me. Think the states is gonna have to wait until early 2013, right?

Oh, Edith. I feel like the writers are just never going to let her be happy.
And are we supposed to infer now that Bates really did kill Vera?

Omg I really am disappointed with the last episode. I have a feeling the old man Edith loves is going to get killed in a car accident or something before he can announce their engagement. I can't stand Mary, I love Shirley MacLaine, and I hope Downton is saved but it would be far more interesting if it wasn't! I hope it gets more exciting.

My money is on Edith somehow saving Downton (possibly Sir Anthony is loaded). Or else she's going to go nuts and start slitting people's throats in the night.
Is the Thomas/O'Brien bromance over forever?!

I thought it looked (in the preview) like they were ready to marry her off to him and he was late (it looked like everything was tarted up for the wedding). I suspect either an accident or a heart attack. BUT, maybe he already changed his will to leave her everything (since he has kinda been in love with her for most of the series) and that's what saves Downton! I'm over Matthew's moral quandary about the money from Reggie Swire. Just take the goddamn money, fool!

However, she's a bit dull and lacking any real characterisation and has become an appendage to Bates' and Lady Mary's storylines and little else, other than being both pragmatic and an optimist. Bates is, on the other hand, less likeable and has more plot going on around him. I want Thomas to get laid. That's my goal for this series.

Meh. The Christmas special left me with high hopes, but thus far Season 3 is pretty underwhelming. Aside from Maggie Smith's bon mots, I just can't seem to muster much interest, and Shirley MacLaine's whole "stereotypical spunky American socialite" schtick is so annoying (and she is so far beneath the caliber of MS as an actress or verbal sparring partner) that I almost couldn't finish watching the first episode. I'll give it another week or two, but I have a sneaking feeling that I might be over Downton Abbey. Alas.

I know. I'm sort of annoyed with everyone's storyline now. Anna and Bates are tiresome, unless Bates really did kill his wife.. that would be sorta interesting. But I'm sick of Mary and Matthew, and the Mrs. Hughes story is underwhelming.
i did tear up when Edith was left at the alter, but it was more out of sympathy at being the "other" child. I thought he'd leave her or get killed on the way to church or something.

I really love the connection between Lard Grantham and Matthew. Like a son he never had. It's sweet.

Edith's dress!! So beautiful. I hate they can't let her be happy. Heck I'd marry that old man too. He's precious.

I feel like the show went off the rails a bit last season so they need to do some crazy shiitake to keep it interesting. I've thought since last season that it would be a great plot twist if Bates really DID kill his wife. Also, now that Edith has been jilted, I'd love to see her go insane and try to ruin everyone's lives. Plus what the hell happened to that guy with the bandages all over his face pretending to be the heir?? And you just know that there's going to be some serious tension between Lard Grantham and Matthew now that they're "co-masters".

Matthew doesn't even LIKE Downton and now he's going to be stuck running it forever.
Maybe he and Edith will BOTH go crazy.
I do kinda think Bates killed former Mrs. Bates. She was totally trying to kill him though. It was pretty much like that scene in The Princess Bride with the wine goblets.

I can't wait until it comes on over here, but I am totally going to spoil it for myself by reading this because I am incredibly impatient. Poor Edith!

Hmmmmmm... I hypothetically wonder hypothetically if there are any good hypothetical websites that would hypothetically have postings of season three episodes. Hypothetically.
