Sometime years ago (at least 8 years, probably more like 10) I dumpster-dived an old, old MP3 player. It's a Samsung YEPP, and it's so old it has a parallel port connection and uses SmartMedia cards. It was loaded with songs, but I never hooked it up until now. Now I have a list of the tracks in its 64MB memory (32 internal, 32 on a SmartMedia card).
They give a snapshot of somebody's state of mind, of the music they liked, and of a time somewhere around 2000ish. (I haven't figured out the latest song on it, but it's after 1998 at least.) Here they are:
