I'd totally forgotten about the wheelchair thing.

The show is really very ableist. Whatsisface from Cold Feet (Frumpy's fiance) is unsuitable because he was wounded in the war. Sure, he's old, but he's also "a cripple" and "worthless" and she wanted taking care of him to be "her life's work." Who wouldn't run for the hills in the face of that?

And in TV world, not being able to walk is the worst thing that could ever happen to a person. Worse than death, really! *sigh*

When it first came out, I read a thing in the paper listing all the ITV shows they'd purloined scenes from. They basically went through ITV archives and went got, got, need, need, got, need, got... and that's why it's amazing.

Oh man. I did NOT see that coming. Wow. I take back what I said about them getting out of sticky situations too easily. They can't take this one back like with matthew walking again.

For real. I thought they were just going to make it all tense for a minute and then everything would be fine in the end. Oof. That was rough. I cried. A lot.

In other news, Mary remains a brat. That comment to Matthew about her father losing enough for one day when he was talking with the lawyer? Gross.

I couldn't believe it when she told Edith that no, they were still not going to be much nicer to each other, but maybe just for tonight she could give her a hug...

Mary is the worst!

Yeah, Mary's the worst. I wish they had killed her off instead. Sybil was the best sister!

yes. mary is terrible! i'm so sad. sybil was the only genuinely nice person in the rich people clan! i am so shocked that this happened. I really didn't think anything like this would happen on Downton. I would wish that Mary died, but Carson would be SO crushed, and I couldn't deal with that.

I do get why mary was pissed at matthew for talking money with a lawyer when her sister literally JUST died hours before.

Oh, I totally get why she was upset! But it's obnoxious that instead of being like "Really, Matthew? Really?" she made it about control of the estate and propriety and disrespecting her father. Blah.

yeah. she sucks in general! especially when she was getting pissed at matthew for almost not taking the money in the first place. sybil was the only reasonable one.

Seriously. RIP, Sybil. You were my fave.

I am not looking forward to the grudge the lady of the house is going to be holding against her husband. Saaaad! No one would wish any harm on Sybil, she should know that, he's probably full of awful guilt as it is. What was with that cocky new doctor? Yeesh.

Also, Edith has tried to be nicer to Mary like 3 times, and Mary always rejects her. It's sad.

Re: Mary. Everyone I know who watches this show rags on her. Yeah, she kind of deserves it sometimes, but I still love her. I think I just kinda relate to her and like her for all her abruptness and snobbishness and ice queenlyness.

I am beginning to dislike Mary more and more and like Edith more and more. Edith is trying! Mary is mean to her! God.

Why did they kill off Sybil?! They better keep Tom and the baby around or I think I will stop watching.

Wow is right! I didn't see this coming at all. Maggie Smith with the slow walk down the hallway and the veil killed me.

I might be the only person watching this show who actually likes Mary. Her honest and mean spirited ways are refreshing to me. But I don't think she is trying to be evil on purpose, she is just a bisque and doesn't hide it.

Sesame Street just released this parody, which is pretty great and makes me think that Downton Abbey would be improved at least 500% if the cast were actually made up of muppets:
