Are you an NFL junkie? Are you in fantasy leagues? Do you hate the replacement refs? Do you think the call made in the Seahawks v Packers game for the winning TD was absolutely disgusting?

Talk to me?

I didn't watch the game, but I am from GB originally so my Facebook blew up with football rage last night. I like football alright, but I feel like the NFL is a really greedy and disgusting company. The excessive commercials, their recent problems with refs, and how hard they make it to watch your home team if you don't live at "home" kind of keep me from getting really into it.

We're huge Vikings fans! I'm furious at the replacement refs for their bad calls during the Vikings game on Sunday, but Monday's game was an absolute disgrace. Uggggh end the lockout!

I'm a Pats fan all the way but I watch pretty much every game every week because I'm in two fantasy leagues, I've got players from all over the place. There have been stupid calls or no flags where there should have been one in every game I've seen this season but last nights call, i can't get over it.

no, because it made scott walker flippantly backtrack on his anti-union stance.

I didn't see the Packers/Seahawks game, but my family is from Wisconsin so I've heard all about it by now.
I watch my home team Cardinals every week, but I'll usually catch another game or two depending on what's on. Pretty excited that we're leading the NFC West right now, but I have no problem admitting that much of it has been the result of bad calls (both in our favor and not) and dumb luck. And while the replacement officials are exceptionally bad, let's not forget that the regular officials aren't without fault. I think it's exceptionally easy for us to get upset at the replacements simply for the fact that they are replacements.

I definitely agree, officials in any sporting event have faults, it's impossible to perfectly judge every aspect of fast moving and aggressive sports. Whether they are replacements or actual officials, anybody making some of the wonky calls that have been made the past 3 weeks, should really have their performance evaluated. Jennings definitely had the ball first. Did the refs have their eyes closed? It should've definitely been an interception. It's getting silly.

It's not really the replacement ref's fault, these aren't even division 1 college referees. These are the guys that are used to officiating the games played by a few of the good football players from your highschool that still wanted to play some in college.

Though the replay officials in the booths are not part of the union and aren't striking, so that's unrelated to thise whole issue.

The main problem with the officials is their inability to control the the players and coaches - they are used to officiating games with 18-21 year olds.

Haha, I'm in Seattle and my facebook page blew up. Pretty much no one here agrees with that call either. The local sportscaster was trying to act all excited about the W in the post-game show but the headline on today's paper is about the 'Hawks "stealing" that game. Which is sort of unfair... it was the officials who did something wrong. No team in the league is ever going to forfeit a score or a game because the call was bad. They'd be lynched for one thing.

I belong to a fantasy league specifically because I have an uncanny ability to do really well in those things despite knowing nothing about football or statistics, and it bugs the fork out of my football-loving friends. Yes, I am evil.

That said, even I could see in recent games that the officiating is just ridiculous, and I hope for the sake of the real fans that they sort themselves out soon.

a friend of mine likened the outrage to high gas prices. People will get mad and complain, but they'll put up with it.

I do wonder if they're actually getting more attention and ratings out of the negative press.

It's almost that time of year again! I've got some open spots in my fantasy league if anyone wants to join (no $ - just for fun)

I am super excited too! All football days are a big deal around the bf's house, but Sundays especially! He, myself and his roommate/our dear friend are all in leagues so there is lots of shiitake talking, beer drinking, yelling at the tv and jumping off the couch. I always make us a huge dinner on football Sundays, too.

The future is unbelievably bright for SF. Kaepernick is showing game-manager qualities that Alex has, but possesses a level of talent that Alex could never hope to achieve. I'll miss Alex a lot, he's a quality QB and a truly stand-up human being ( http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/20 ... sing-girl/ ) and I'm not sure many guys in the league could deal with what he's been through with the Niners. But it's in the past and I'm so excited for what the next few years are going to be like for this team.
Unbelievably talented QB that's looking WAY smoother around the edges, even in preseason. Offensive and Defensive lines that are equally devastatingly efficient at what they do. A front office that's 100% behind a coaching staff that's so good at talent evaluation/drafting/free-agent pickups that it's almost unfair to everyone else. Brand new stadium starting next season (albeit with a bit of sadness since they won't be in San Francisco proper anymore, and the Stick is going to be demolished).
I really don't know how it can get any better for a Niner fan these days.

Hey,

Had to try and remember my PPK login details to post here.

Erinwiko linked me this thread. She hates NFL. She hates most sport in general and thinks that it is "dumb".

Me? I love it.

As an Aussie fan, there's nothing I look forward to more than setting the alarm for 3am and getting up to watch my Redskins play live.

I'm expecting big things this season, and if RGIII stays healthy I think we can win the division again, and go deep into the playoffs.

I'll check by this thread more often during the season :)

Weirdest touchdown ever in this Packers/Bears game...no one realized it was still in play. I'd rather see a good, clean TD, but I will take this! We can do this! Go Pack, Go!

There is always next year for Washington.

Yay! There is much rejoicing in the land. Specifically in the apartment of Fizzgig.

There is much rejoicing in the home of monkeytoes and biker boy too. Go 'Hawks!

I'm glad the Rams reeled in their 'tude and finished their season playing football instead of tantruming. It was getting ugly there for awhile.

Such a sad, wet game. Must find someone to pull for in the playoffs.

The Steelers got totally robbed by that San Diego game. I know they wouldn't have gone far in the playoffs, probably, but there should have been a penalty when that missed kick occurred because the Chargers had too many players on the field. Also, that TD the Chiefs scored in OT was completely legit. It was a super exciting game to watch, but disappointing from a Pittsburgh point of view!

I've decided to root for the Broncos in the playoffs, since I really like Peyton Manning.
