I don't think I've ever actually finished a game of monopoly. At some point we would just get bored and stop playing.
I think I like the robot.
And I do think my set had the man on the horse.

Wilson and I had a really great game going one night, then he's suddenly like, oh I'm going to Brazil, and I haven't heard from him since*. Damn you, Monopoly and your homewrecking ways.
Also never play against immigrants.
(*it actually went on so long that we ended up just going to bed and forgetting about it. We fail at checkers and Yahtzee, too.)

I'm just finding it weird that nobody is more concerned that the cat may take over from the dog. Is there really room for [i]two/i] domesticated animal pieces?
(The dog was always my favourite).
I think that Monopoly was really bad for my developing overcompetitiveness as a child. These days, I attempt to politely excuse myself from any and every form of "fun" competition because I morph into some kind of demonic winning-at-any-cost-and-destroying-my-opponents-even-if-I-can't-win beast. I don't play board games anymore.
Except Boggle (and yes, I will crush anyone mercilessly at Boggle, but I just really really enjoy that game).

I don't play board games anymore. Yeah, Monopoly really encourages this behavior. I mean, the only way to win is to grind your opponents into dust, which is kind of...anti-social? Anyway, German-style board games are much better about this--one of the defining characteristic of the genre is that they discourage direct competition with opponents. Instead it's more about strategic competition, and there are usually steep costs involved in sabotaging other players, if it happens at all. Also, there's a documentary about Monopoly on Netflix which is worth watching, Under the Boardwalk I think it's called.
