I like the robot best but I support the addition of a cat too. But I don't like the proposed cat. It should be in the style of the old pieces. The dog had little etched in fur lines that gave it some texture. I'd like that on the cat.
My ideal set would include: robot, cat, dog, top hat, thimble, and car. Heck, maybe the iron too. those are the only ones i ever wanted to be. Actually, the only part of the game I liked was picking out my piece.

Maybe they should ditch everything except a bunch of tokens and change the game to be choosing the piece.

You might be onto something there. After you choose your favorite piece you roll the dice and land on "Let's Be Friends!"

this approach only works if nobody ever wants the same token, or if every game comes with 50 of each piece. otherwise, you are still generating tension and animosity right off the bat.

that said, man, you all played some cutthroat monopoly. i can't remember ever fighting or getting upset about any part of it. but i have very little competitive spirit.

For me, the problem was that it went on for-forking-ever. I wonder if I ever actually finished a game.

well, i do have a lot of obsessive-compulsive spirit, so that part didn't bother me so much.

I can see board games driving people to anger. I hate any game that isn't strategically based. Like Life. That is the stupidest game ever. It makes me super angry. Especially, when I get impregnated over and over again. forking Life.

Life is barely even a game. There's like two points on the entire board where you're making a choice. The only joy in that game is in subverting the weird 1950s your-life-will-be-run-by-other-people vibe by getting gay married.

Isn't the thing with The Game of Life the gimmicky plastic spinning wheel in the centre? That was the sole attraction for that game's existence as far as I was concerned.

Almost certainly. A lot of that going around at the time--the Pop-a-matic bubble, Mouse Trap, I could go on (I couldn't go on).

These days, you can get the cool gimmicky game pieces and an awesome game, like the game I'm currently most excited about trying: Tzolk'in!

The cat is cute, but the robot has a mustache. So, robot.

Cat, obviously. Robot a close second. The helicopter is stupid.

I like games that have buildings on them. Hotel was awesome. Mall Madness was one I loved but never owned.

Other awesome games: Trouble, Splat, Life, CLUE!!!, Girl Freakin' Talk, Babysitter Club The Board Game, Barbie Dream Date (no point to the game other than to avoid the creepy dates), Mystery Date, Operation.

I could basically quit my life and just play board games. All I have right now is several versions of Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, and Monopoly. And nobody will ever play with me, which is infuriating. Why wouldn't everyone want to take hours out of their day to play street rules Trivial Pursuit with me? Who doesn't like PIE??!??!!!

Ok, from the lid of my parents' boggle set:
gamut, ram, doe, does, tram, clod, pod/s, prose, prod/s, gram, art, cart, clam, rag, rural, slam.
(Clearly I'm out of practice. Time for some solo boggle!)

This sounds like a much better option for Monopoly rehab than, oh, say, moving on to thrashing everyone at Tekken 3*.

Mouse trap! Girl talk!!! Oh man how did I forget these amazing games!

Mouse Trap is one that i wanted to set on fire, but only because it never worked the way it was supposed to once it was all built. and also because my younger sister wanted to play it all the time. i kept trying to distract her with lego windmills, but i guess they weren't flashy enough.

I am having a game night tonight...no Monopoly!

Settlers, Flux, Carcassonne or GTFO.

Don't even bring that one up! How many times did vijita and I try to get y'all to play Dixit online? HOW many?!

Ok, like, twice, but still it remains a sore spot.

True story, I own Dixit, the hardcopy, but have never been able to get together a minimum of two other people to play it. So sad.

Small World, however, has proven to be surprisingly good for two-player games.
