So, sometimes you just want a dumb show to keep you company. I like to have a little something on when I'm doing homework stuff, because I don't do well with no distractions. I think it keeps me less anxious? But I need something sorta dumb on so that I don't have to pay too much attention.
Anyway, my choice as of late (on Netflix) is Charmed. So dumb this show, but that makes it easy to follow and just interesting enough. Sometimes I also watch "I Shouldn't Be Alive" or "Bones." If I finish Charmed and I'm not done yet, I'll give Hoarders a try, but I don't want to be distracted by needing to clean. My hovel has to accepted for the time being.

Bones works for me, and any of the CSI's... which are usually playing somewhere on cable.

Golden Girls, Seinfeld and Cheers, probably. But also cooking shows.

Back when I had cable, dumb TLC shows and Food Network Challenge were my go-to shows for this type of thing. Hoarders sucks me in and/or makes me anxious! Doesn't work as background for me.

For me, it's almost always Bond movies. Especially Goldfinger and The Spy Who Loved Me. Or Casino Royale, but then I get distracted.

I second Seinfeld, and add PeeWee's Playhouse.

Yeah, that is probably why I've not chosen it when I could have.

Right now, it's Supernatural. Occasionally I miss something plot-wise, but usually it doesn't require much attention and there are eight seasons of it (I'm only on season two, so maybe it starts to suck after a while, I don't know).

Most of the stuff on HGTV, Criminal Minds, and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

I was thinking about starting a thread about this! TV is like the radio for me a lot of the time. I noticed they added all of Melrose Place to Netflix recently, so that's been my background show lately. Everything is so over-the-top that you don't even have to look up (though you'd be missing out on all the awesome clothes and hair).

Factor in my 30 year 007 love fest, and I'm just a goner. If there is ever anything bad about him, like how Sean Connery and Cary Grant are/were apparently mysogynistic crassholes, I do not want to know. Hoarders creeps me out because it is so forking exploitive. They don't ever seem able to help people get to a better mental place, so what's the point? I mean what's in it for the people on the show? They open themselves up to gawking, scorn, and ridicule, but to no real benefit to themselves, it seems. Very depressing.

Old seasons of SVU, old seasons of NCIS, or old seasons of Big Bang Theory. At least one of the three is on at any given time and I've probably seen it so it can be on without me having to pay attention to it. If I'm doing a major housecleaning I put on a movie I've seen a billion times.

Sometimes when I can't sleep, I will put a show on while I lie on the couch and try to fall asleep. It doesn't seem like it should work, but it does, especially if it's a show I really like. Lately I've been rewatching Arrested Development.

MST3K! It also helps to get me to sleep at night XD But usually the more quiet, nonsensical old films, the bad eighties films are distracting.

I like to watch really stupid sitcoms. Ones that I would totally not watch otherwise. Whitney, Guys with Kids.
Occasionally, I'll watch shows I really adore just to get me happy. That's almost always Seinfeld or Psych. Right now it's How I Met Your Mother.

The Food Network when cookin' (unless a movie I want to pay half attention to is on), TCM when nothing else is on, sometimes the radio stations when I'm bathing or just want some background noise (Jukebox classics, 70's hits, 80s hits lately because I'm feeling nostalgic, but this changes all the time) and the fireplace (nighttime) and aquarium (in daytime) when I need to concentrate but happen to be sitting in front of the TV.
At my old apartment it was always infomercials and CNN but because my office has moved away from the television, I notice my choices have changed. Now I NEVER watch infomercials or CNN. I do wonder, sometimes, what the infomercial world is doing without me.

Whatever's on hulu at the moment. Mostly sitcoms or I'll see what's playing for free like first season Psyche or Buffy.
