wow Roger Ebert died!

i thought i read like yesterday that he found out his cancer had come back but apparently he has now passed away from cancer.

My sister & I used to watch Siskel & Ebert all the time when we were kids - I have no idea why we loved it so much, since we were too young to understand most of the movies. Sometime before Siskel died, she went to see them speak in Chicago and got their autographs for me! So I am especially sad about this one.

This is really sad. He was not only a smart critic but a fine writer, and a keen observer of popular culture; I will especially miss his witty, incisive commentary about politics, which he was doing more of in the past few years.

I used to love watching him and Siskel when I was young. My husband told me yesterday and I watched a few clips on youtube of their show.

I really don't care about many celebrities, but I genuinely admired Roger Ebert. I have never heard a single negative thing about the man (and don't tell me if you have, damnit!). Hell, I don't even like movies, but I loved reading his reviews.

Very sad! I saw Roger Ebert on the subway in person and I'll never forget the date: September 9, 2001 because it was two days before 9/11. He was in town for the Toronto film festival and I was nudging my sister, trying to point him out on the downlow and my sister was all stagewhispering: "Robert Eager!? Roger Eder!? Who?!" Because she didn't know who he was. Of course, he looked at us and probably knew we recognized him, which isn't a bad thing, because we weren't bothering him. I was just trying to point him out. So that's my Roger Ebert celebrity encounter story.

Anyway, sad. RIP.

He recanted much of them! And, in the piece he published the day before he died he even joked about having a video game aspect to his new website.

I am still shocked because he said he was going to reduce the amount of movie reviewing he was doing to start radiation, and the very next day the news was saying he died.
