I feel as if answering this will be stepping into a MBM/Brian war. There will be many casualties.

Batman Returns has Christopher Walken (and Danny DeVito was pretty damn creepy/gross as The Penguin). in conclusion - Batman Returns is awesomer.

You should agree that Michelle Pfeiffer is the better Catwoman, though.

I have never seen The Dark Knight Returns.

i agree that it's difficult to compare them straight; the aims of the directors and the spirit of the source material are so far apart. i think both movies did what they set out to do exceptionally well. but if i'm taking one to a desert island, it's dark knight every time. batman returns is fun, but at no point did i stand up and cheer while watching it. also, it doesn't contain any shots of the gehry building on spruce street, and i'm going to miss that view a lot while i'm trapped on that island.

Batman Returns. I don't care for Christian Bale.

While I agree that you can't really compare because of all the reasons already mentioned, I'm still gonna have to say Batman Returns just based on the fact that it's one of my favourite movies which I watch about once a year. And yes, Michelle Pfeiffer is a far superior Catwoman. And yeah, Christopher Walken. Also, studies show that Michael Keaton improves movies.

i love that Batman Returns is one of your favorite movies, Rachell. Tim Burton's Batman is one of mine and i too watch it about once a year. although when i was many years ago i probably watched it a few times a week (i believe it came out when i was about 10 years old and i saw it in the theatre). love that movie. Michelle Phfeiffer is fo 'sho a far superior Catwoman. i also agree. there's something about Anne Hathaway that bothers me. i think it's her eyes. and her acting. the only role i've actually enjoyed her in was that Alice in Wonderland movie a few years ago. i thought the role of the White Queen suited her.

I voted Dark Knight but full disclosure I haven't seen Batman Returns in like 15 years.

The Dark Knight Rises gets my vote. I liked Batman Returns, but I preferred the darker, more complex imagining of Gotham we got in the Dark Knight trilogy. And I love Christian Bale. Yum.

I really feel like this is coloring my opinion also. I haven't seen Returns in a while, but I've seen Rises within the last month.

Yo, any post Keaton, pre Bale Batman movie is pure 100% weapons grade dogshit. Don't even get me started with how wrong they got Mr. Freeze. Did you play Arkham City? That game does Mr. Freeze right!
