I just love love love music that reminds me of certain seasons. I like to fully embrace each season and AUTUMN is my absolute favorite. I am making my usual compilation of songs and albums to put on shuffle at work and was curious if anyone had some suggestions!
My all time favorite Fall album is the "Tin Fist EP" by The Acorn.

Autumn is my favorite too! I have 2 different playlists just for fall...they're pretty long, but are made up of lots of Joni Mitchell, Bibio, Devendra Banhart, Elliott Smith, The Zombies, Jens Lekman, Yo La Tengo, Sufjan Stevens, and Fleet Foxes.

Yeah, I posted that and now I'm off on a Robyn Hitchcock kick...
It's a pretty serious 1993 flashback for me, which is a lot of long stories in a big pile. Very appropriate for the autumnal theme, though, on basically all levels.
Makes me want to dig out very old photos and wonder what happened to people I used to know...

Nick Drake and Belle and Sebastian always remind me of autumn as I can imagine listening to them whilst kicking fallen leaves about in the street with nowhere in particular to go.

all of those are essentials!! iron and wine is the best rainy day fall music ever. a close friend of mine plays guitar in Woods, I had never thought of it as fall music until your suggestion, and now that I listen to it, its perfect.

Urge for Going by Joni Mitchel is the best late fall/winter song.
But I agree with a lot of what everyone else said: Nick Drake, Iron & Wine, Belle and Sebastian and Elliott Smith. I'm also gonna add Leonard Cohen and the Felice Brothers.

I literally heard about Sufjan Stevens about 24 or so hours ago and am liking the music so far... Downloaded Illinoise after hearing a performance on either Kimmel or some other late night show.
I highly recommend checking it out to anyone else.

Yeah, he's great! He has a really good Christmas album too that's perfect for winter. I don't have his newest one yet, but I've liked what I've heard of it!

I have vivid memories of walking around the neighborhood listening to the Cure's "standing on the beach" cassette in high school during the fall, that said the same tape now lives in my car stereo during the fall, the b-sides are the best.
I also tend to listen to glitchy lo-fi electronica stuff like Hood, Mum, the Notwist and Flying Saucer Attack.
I also love Neil Young but have set the rule of not playing his music during the winter because i get too bummed out.

oh man, Anything Joni Mitchell, Especially "Blue" as an album. I think "Blue" can apply to any season but its my favorite thing to put on the turntable and listen to while I knit and sip tea.
i just realized that last statement could have come from me... OR a 75 year old lady. You choose.

i moved to los angeles for a long time and since this is my first full season change in Kansas City I had forgotten just how much I miss getting the full effect of the season changes. Its nice to have leaves crunch under your feet and scarf weather. I wish we would get one more big thunderstorm before winter hits. I think I need to move to the Pac. NW
