And of course the parallels just get more disturbing the more you think about them. I know a lot of people don't love the character but I really hope Weiner & Co. aren't going to have her be brutally murdered!

Weiner & Co. are fans of using symbols as subtle markers of what's going on at that point in American history...I wouldn't be suprised if the shirt were an intentional choice but I don't think they're planning to derail into any murder plots.

I thought the shirt was an ad for Macy's...

I think Macy's logo has always incorporated a star, but the big, single red star on a white background is pretty recent. Anyway, Mad Men's costume designer has said Megan's shirt was a direct reference to the one Sharon Tate wore in a 1967 Esquire photo spread.

They already showed how easy it was to get into the apartment! AND all the violence and the constant police sirens!

I have been thinking about Bob a lot! I want him to be the nice dude BUT right now I am convinced he 1. does not even work for the agency
2. is at best an undercover journalist that will expose Don

(I think) the Sharon Tate/Megan shirt is related to the Vietnam war - it's an allusion to Tate and also a political statement for Megan.

I cried. That was amazing.

My favorite part was Rock checking in at Peggy and Abe's house.

I laughed for 10 minutes about that part. I was trying so hard to not wake my son up from his nap. Ten I realized they have made one for each episode, I know what I am doing the rest of the night!

I feel sorry for Peggy and the jerk magnet she is. I hope she can sell that apartment and move on.

I didn't realize the connection to Sharon Tate - I just thought it was a weird outfit for Megan to be wearing, as she's usually done up. But this makes more sense...

I don't think its Mad Men's style to have her killed, and I wonder if it is supposed to be a subtle contributor to the overall direction/nuance of the show. This season is really dark. The writers have highlighted violence this season by including the MLK and Kennedy assassinations and all the hoopla around Peggy's apartment, and in the last couple of episodes there has been a crap-ton of sirens in the background seemingly constantly. Maybe all of these references to violence, whether overt or subtle, collectively a buildup to or a metaphor for Don's character, like he's gonna snap really soon.

Oh yeah, and good for Betty. That whole dialogue ("that poor girl") was so matter of fact and spot on. Good stuff.

I think MM is more subtle than that. They aren't going to just put a big star (bullseye) on a character they plan to kill. I'm sure it's more nuanced than that.

I am going to spin my wheels here for fun. In the scene where Megan has made Don's dinner because it's Thursday and he's deflecting her questions by asking her about her day, she says it's terrible, and they don't think she's playing twins differently enough. As he says "It's not like it's never been done before" and she agrees, the sirens start, loudly. And it's true, sirens are loud this season. As they continue, she says, "I told Mel I didn't want to be a cliche" and "two halves of the same person who want the same thing but trying to get it in different ways" . . . for both things, that's Dick/Don. Huge sirens during the scene with the Sharon Tate shirt. Pete is climbing the walls in every direction and he's kind of starting to froth at the mouth. Imagine that Pete finally goes overboard into rage against the loss of his family and Don's continued success while Pete struggles with feeling inadequate at work and fully irritated and inconvenienced by his mother. Could you see him taking it out on Megan as a way to really harm Don? I could see it. His character would be prime for being a real villain now that he's been a villain in multiple tiny ways. Not to say it will, but I could see it. The happy family with Betty and Don (and Bobby) is such a perfect contrast. Lots of beds in this episode, and Pete doesn't have one, because his mother is staying with him now, right? He is also fixated on not having a seat at the table at work.

There have been seriously shocking episodes before. I'm sure my speculation is no part of correct, but something is seriously coming!

I think I say "marj-rin"? There's a hint of the short "a" in the middle, but it kind of gets kicked to the side so it is more of a 2 syllable word for me. And I didn't notice anything odd about the pronunciation on MM so I'm assuming they said it the same way. Should it properly be a 3 syllable word? I've never thought this hard about the word margarine in all my days.

Well the way I say it, and hence of course, the proper way, is marj-a-REEN. I think that's how most English people say it, or maybe it's a north of England thing. My husband is out or I'd make him say it to see. I'm thinking way too hard about it now too.

I say marjarEEn because my dad does, but no one else I know in this country does.

I actually just facetimed my sister to ask her how she says it and was heartbroken that she didn't reply. Knocking on the neighbours door to ask would be too much, right?
