Well the way I say it, and hence of course, the proper way, is marj-a-REEN. I think that's how most English people say it, or maybe it's a north of England thing. My husband is out or I'd make him say it to see. I'm thinking way too hard about it now too.
I say marjarEEn because my dad does, but no one else I know in this country does.
People in the US (and, I'm assuming, Canada) generally say marj-a-rin, but in the UK it's more typically pronounced marj-a-reen, so I'd say you're perfectly normal (at least in this regard)!

OK I've been thinking a lot about the Sharon Tate theory. It really gives me chills. But how about this:

All of the similarities are leading up to A murder, but it's not necessarily going to be Meagan. Maybe another woman. What about Sylvia? Or (I don't remember her name) the other woman from the soap opera? I don't think it would be anyone like Peggy/Joan/Betty. Or there could be an attempted murder?

The only thing that makes me doubt it is that the Lane suicide was pretty intense last season. Would it be kind of cheap to kill off a character in a really dramatic way again?

See, I think if they do it, they will do it big. And it won't be cheap if they use it to drive the plot next season. They have tossed out major characters before, with backlash: Lane, as you said Isa, and Sal.

I think that it could be Joan. I would be miserable, but if it's Bob Benson and not Pete, Joan would be easy. But Megan was not well-liked for herself, and she'd be even easier, especially if it gave Don misery doldrums for the final season.

Yeah, I really don't see Pete as a killer (unless it was unintentional, like a drunk driving accident or something), and Bob Benson seems too obvious as a potential serial killer. If something terrible does happen, I'm thinking it's not going to be as cut-and-dried as a murder, but rather an incident that underscores the increasing sense of danger and dis-ease in NYC as the '60s wind down. It's interesting to contrast the glamorous, Rat Pack, cocktail lounge vibe of the first couple seasons with the blaring sirens and talk of riots and shootings of this one.

He's too much of a craven bootlicker to murder anyone. Now Pete's sideburns, on the other hand, look capable of anything!

Isa, you are making updates like the Mad Men writers make for the upcoming shows! I have no idea what is happening. Ok, as long as no one is killing anyone tonight...

Who else thinks that Megan is dead? Raise your hand!

There were so many things, like with the trip-out sequence and at the end where they pointed out that he hadn't gone home yet after getting back from Florida that makes me think that something must have happened to her. Also when he asked his secretary to call his wife, we don't know if there was any answer or not.

Protip: if you get uverse on the west coast, they broadcast AMC-W and AMC in HD. So I tape the east coast one, which airs at 7pm our time.

Anyway, we're still in 1968 (Chicago DNC), and it looks like the Manson murders were in August '69. I don't think Megan's going to be murdered as an homage to Tate *this season*. I don't really like the actress or the character so I'm all for it, but alas. But the LA house party scene did keep you on your toes, right?

This episode was, I thought, a little lackluster. It was filler.

ETA: if it didn't have to be taped too far in advance for this, I would assume that it was aggressive filler jut to peas off the surrounding fan frenzy - remember the "cartman's dad revealed" episode of south park that was just half an hour of terrence & phillip? Yeah, if they'd been able to premeditate it this would've been the mad men equivalent of that.

Yup, when he was asking to call his wife, I was waiting for a there's no answer Mr Draper response. Definitely messing with my mind with these conspiracy theories.

Megan isn't dead - she appeared twice in the "next time on Mad Men" preview - but I'll bet my purely figurative left nut that she's pregnant. What that means for the future remains in the womb of time (so to speak), but we also saw Betty spluttering "she's 25!" which adds credence to the idea that a new little Draper is on the way.

Every MM fan needs to read Tom and Lorenzo - check out what they have to say about Megan's shirt.

I agree. I don't actually think she is dead. And the escalating sirens, dark tone of the season etc is competely in keeping with it being 1968. My parents (my mother in particular) would talk about how it seemed like the world was coming to an end that year between the assasinations and riots etc. I think the sirens are indeed reflecting the escalating social turmoil etc of the time.
