I'm sorry! But they're not spoilers if it's already aired, right? That's the policy? Or am I being a dick and spoiling people all the time?

Don't worry - it's a great episode that will still have plenty of surprises. We always watch them twice, anyway; I always like the second viewing because of what I know (but don't necessarily know), and the different perspective that comes with not wondering what's going to "happen."

No I knew what I was doing! No need to apologize! I subscribe through iTunes so I get my episodes Monday morning, which is so late that I seriously sometimes wake up at 5 to watch it before work.

No, you're fine to post after it airs! I think vijita was only mad at herself.
(I read the "spoilers" every week too! I just can't wait.)

Whew! Okay, yeah, I just wanted to make sure. Desdemona is right, there will still be plenty of surprises.

I liked the episode. That meeting with Hershey (Don's Confessional, if you will) was INTENSE. I actually felt sorry for don, and that's a first for me. And Bob and Pete were great all around. I agree with Amandabear - "NOT GREAT, BOB" was awesome.

I guess my only criticism, which might not even be one, is that I didn't see the Don Reveal coming. Yes, I know they've shown him cracking and hitting the booze too hard, but I'm still making up my mind if I buy the Confessional, as in it was it realistic or "hey where did that come from." But it made for a good finale and I'm curious how next season is going to go. But I am confused about the Megan thing - is she actually going?

Did anyone notice Peggy at the end of the episode? In her pantsuit (have we ever seen her in pants) and looking out her window? She has arrived methinks.

I think she'll go. I'm just wondering if, since Don got fired, he'll try to go with her.

I did notice Peggy chilling in the corner office, but I suspect her triumph will he short-lived... Duck was already bringing in Don's replacement, after all.

But why would Bob fork with Pete when Pete could blow his cover? Wasn't that part of the deal: don't fork with me and I won't blow your cover? Now Bob's cost him his account and his MOTHER. How did he get that much of an upper hand? I don't know. I wish I did, but I don't buy this episode. Not just the Bob stuff but the Don stuff, too. I was left more wondering what the writers are doing than what the characters are doing, and I hate that feeling.

Well, Bob pretty handily embarrassed Pete in from of Chevy - or rather, he made Pete embarrass himself in front of Chevy, which is worse, because it's not like he could blame Bob for the fact that he can't drive stick. He tossed him the keys, sure, but Pete cost himself that account. Pete could rat him out for faking his credentials, but after that happened wouldn't it just look like sour grapes, or retaliation? You forked up with Chevy, so now you're going to run to the partners and tell on Bob? Not that he would've been in the wrong, necessarily, but I feel like that's how it would've looked. Plus he would've had to explain how he found out, and why he was trying to get rid of Bob in the first place.

And I don't think Bob had anything to do with the Manolo thing, though. Other than recommending him, I mean. I don't buy that Bob has some grand conspiracy plan and had Pete's mom killed.

Plus I feel like Pete has been checked out of SC&P for a while - it makes sense to me that he'd want to cut his losses in NY and go to California.

I'm a bit confused about the California thing. It seemed to imply at the end that both Pete and Ted were gonna be in California. What did I miss?

I loved Ted for about 2 minutes, and then he pulled that shiitake. I'm so glad Peggy told him to fork off.

I really hope Bob is back next season, because I'm really starting to like him. He's so devious, but I love how he is with Joan. Agreed re: Pete's mom - I don't think he had anything to do with that.

I hope that's the end of Megan. I feel like she finally realised that Don is a mess and she can't do anything to help him.

Don presented them with Stan's idea for a California office of SC&P - I assumed they decided to do that? I can't think of another reason that they'd send two such senior members of the company when they'd originally implied that they'd just need one low-level account man and Harry to handle Sunkist.

This.

ETA: Best line of the episode, which has been filed away for later use.

Wow, I'll echo everyone else and say that I was in awe of how many things happened! I was pretty ho-hum about this season overall and I doubted it would be a very exciting finale, but they proved me wrong. I just can't believe that Don did/said those things. It hasn't sunk in yet. Whatever will I do while I wait for next season?!

And yay, hopefully no more Megan!

Don talking about his childhood during the Hershey meeting took Mad Men to new levels of awkward. My jaw was dropped the entire time. I guess I wasn't blown away by the finale because so much time was devoted to what a hot mess Don is, and as the show has progressed I've gotten much more interested in the story lines of the other main characters. Ted has now surpassed Pete as my most disliked character.

Yeah. I'm really over all the Don flashbacks. We get it. He's screwed up. He may or may not be able to redeem himself by the end of next season. Now, more Peggy, Joan, and Sally!

I have been checking Tom and Lorenzo all morning looking for Mad Style-then I remembered it's only Tuesday! :( I need to read about Peggy's pants and Ted's adultery outfit!

I had to leave the room when this happened.

And I'm going to miss Megan but I definitely think it's over, she hasn't been doing anything all season but being cheerful.

What if it turns out Bob never existed! (obvs It would be the worst twist ever but he seems so out of place!)

Tom and Lorenzo think Don and Megan will get back together. I hope they're wrong. I really don't want her to come back. I would like Don to be alone for a while and maybe (maybe?) grow as a person. Because what would be the point of this entire episode (maybe even this entire season) if he doesn't?

LazySmurf wrote:

This would be akin to the "dream of an autistic child" trope. I think I might have to stop watching if they pulled that. But it has always felt like he just came out of nowhere.

I wonder if Don is actually gonna tell his children about who he really is. I mean, showing them the house he grew up in could easily be covered up with "it didn't look this shitty when I lived here", since it looks like it could've been a nice house at some point.

I just had a thought - Don's brother Adam: where does he fit in to his childhood flashbacks? Adam was there when he left for the army (or certainly when he came back), but it looked like a different family than the one he grew up with. Did I miss something, or is this a continuity error?
