Do we really not have a thread? I could have sworn we did but I did several searches and came up with nothing. YOU ARE TEARING ME APART, PPK!!!

Anyway, I wanted to post this excerpt of Greg Sestero's new book about the making of The Room. At first I kind of rolled my eyes but when I read it I remembered why The Room is so amazing to begin with and the book just sounds glorious now.

Here's an amazing paragraph about Tommy being insanely late on the first day of filming:

Quote:
What was Tommy doing? Primping, getting dressed, getting undressed, reprimping, doing pull-ups, getting dressed, primping again, falling asleep. At one point I marched up the stairs to inform Tommy that he couldn’t be two hours late on the first day of filming his own movie. But before I could give him this blast of tough-love truth, Tommy walked out of his bedroom wearing white surgical gloves stained to the wrist with black hair dye. Tommy had actually decided to redye his hair before heading over to the set. I went back downstairs and started watching Spy Game. Tommy had hundreds of DVDs scattered all over the floor, though I’m not sure he watched many of them. By the time Spy Game was over, Tommy was ready to go. We were four hours late now — and we hadn’t even stopped at 7-Eleven for Tommy’s customary five cans of Red Bull. I think this could be deemed an inauspicious beginning.

To get the best viewing of it, get hold of the RiffTrax mp3 to listen to the MST3K guys do their thing:

It does improve the film.

Will the book finally reveal which planet Tommy Wiseau is from?

God, I hope so. His wiki says he lived in France "a long time ago".

GIRL, DISH IT. I should check with the public library to see if they'll have it!

i'm kind of amazed that this movie became a phenomenon, because i can't figure out why that first person sat through the whole thing. if i hadn't been hearing about it for ages, i'd have turned it off halfway through the first bedroom scene--like, the second the tabletop water wall came into view.

I've watched it too many times, but I will admit to fast forwarding through the bedroom scenes on a few of those views and it made the movie so much more bearable!

I really want to see this movie someday but it wouldn't be the same if I couldn't be in the same place as y'all to watch it together.

At the theater I used to watch it at, everyone would yell "intermission" during the second long sex scene with Johnny and Lisa and go get snacks or pee.

I am about halfway through The Disaster Artist and it is so good and hilarious. I highly recommend it! Greg Sestero is having a book signing event here next weekend and I already have tickets.

I watched this a couple of weeks ago with friends. We watched Troll 2 as well, and we've decided we need to watch more funny/terrible movies. Though I'm guessing that there probably aren't that many that are genuinely funny enough to be worth sitting through.

The sex scene that gets repeated twice was the most painful thing. Like, I got through it the first time and I thought the ordeal was over. But no!

snarf - i used to watch some really bad movies back in high school... my friend lived beside a discount movie rental place that only seemed to have low budget sci fi, so we had a ritual of a b movie or two, followed by sex with sue at 11pm on the cable access channel. i don't remember if they were funny, but they were definitely bad... leprechaun 1, 2 and 3 and the vaguely related leprechauns from space are the ones i remember.

i could've sworn when he visited toronto, there was an article from torontoist where wiseau and sestero hung out with a reporter, and they go out in kensington market for vegan food (since sestero is vegan), but wiseau kept referring to him as a 'began' because 'begans eat beans.' ugh ugh now i can't find it anywhere... it was hilarious. i'll just link this one which still has some gems... but not began ones.

I just finished the book! It just adds so much more. It made me laugh out loud at parts, but I feel so, so bad for everyone involved in that film.

Now I gotta re download the Rifftrax and watch the movie again. Immediately.
