I went to Horizons and it was absolutely delicious. I haven't been to Vedge yet but I can't wait to try it.

I'm curious if all the baskets will be vegan items?

I think I'm mostly shocked that the mystery ingredients weren't completely vile. It seems Food Network loves to do that to vegetarians/vegans. I really hope he wins!

What really needs to happen is an all vegan battle with 4 vegan chefs and all vegan baskets.

he kind of has the upper hand with the secret ingredient being tempeh.

That would be great; it would provide such a huge opportunity for the omnivorous audience to see how interesting, creative, and appetizing vegan food is!

they also recently had a vegetarian chef on Iron Chef

http://www.foodnetwork.com/videos/morimoto-vs-cohen-video/59727.html

its definitely a lacto-ovo veg battle though as she uses about 80 lbs of butter

Ooo, I can't wait. I love Chopped* but they aren't the greatest when it comes to vegetarian or vegan cooking - I can only remember two vegetarian competitors ever and they were both chopped in the first round of their respective episodes. I think there was meat in the mystery baskets also but I could be misremembering.

*I just found out what brown bread is while watching an episode on Hulu. I always assumed it meant whole wheat!

I think the article has the date wrong. It says Tuesday June 18th but I looked at my dvr schedule and on June 16th it lists one of the basket items as being tempeh.

I just ate at Vedge last week! It was amazing, so I'm really excited about this Chopped episode.

RandiJM, I think it airs tonight or tomorrow. I checked my DVR schedule yesterday because I thought it was supposed to be Sunday too.

It's on right now! I think he's doing well. Alex Guarneschelli just said she 'learned something' from his appetizer. I am predicting that all the baskets will be vegan so far as he goes on. They seem to be catering to him a bit, which I think is awesome!

They actually had vegan butter in the pantry. Do you think that added just for him?

Wow! I have never watched this show before, and I am unbelievably stressed out watching it! So stressful!
His dish looked amazing! I hope he wins but even if he doesn't, it's still such an impressive performance. I missed the beginning - has the whole episode really been this respectful??

The whole episode has been really respectful. One of the reasons I like Chopped is because it doesn't have the drama and back stabbing that you see in other competition shows.

As soon as we said it, there goes the honey in the basket! You know they did that just to test him and create some drama. That's so cheap. I'm mad at this show! If he loses because of this...

Also...don't make the mistake I made and look at the tweets for #Chopped. Ugh. Everyone complaining about the whiny vegan who thinks bees are animals. ajsdf;lkjwelk

so, did he use it, or did he secretly use agave? (i was thinking the best thing to do would probably be to use 1/4 tsp of the honey, and finish the rest with agave. technicalities.)

We usually watch Chopped pretty religiously, but last night was the first time in a while we were doing other stuff, and what do I find out this morning but that one of the chefs from Vedge was on?! UGH. An awesome vegan chef from my own city and of course I miss it. Hopefully they'll replay it soon.
