mixmaster_mo wrote: Holy shiitake! I am so anxious about next week!!! Seriously, this episode was greatness. I find Dexter and Lumen really cute together, and it's great he's getting some happiness. I was a little shocked that Jordan was actually a dominant personality because he seemed to be a submissive masquerading as a dominant after that whole awkward exchange with Emily from last week. Anyway, this is good.
Also, Quinn and Deb make me want to vomit. In fact, I think most of Deb's romantic interests have made me want to vomit. I don't see this ending well at all because she has serious bad luck in the love department. Yeah, I think they're cute too. Jordan never seemed submissive to me, per se - more like he just gets his jollies making other people do what he says. A control freak sort of dominant who doesn't like to get his hands dirty. Deb should just join a convent already.

Yeah I get that. The whole not looking Emily in the eye and not touching her throws me off because this week he completely looked at her long before he was going to kill her. I still can't put my finger on what this character's deal is. I feel like there are many layers there. I can buy that he would play timid as a tool of manipulation, but there seemed to be a bit of truth in that.
Of course, I'm probably reading waaaay too much into this shiitake like I was with the nanny thing. Ha ha.

I'm still surprised that there was nothing to the nanny thing.

The nanny was probably a red herring.
Also, when he stabbed Liddie I was all "Oh my god!" in breathless high pitched something. And Quinn coming to the van! Ahhhhhhshit that scene was so tense. fork, this EPISODE was intense.
Also, killing Liddie DEFINITELY goes against his code, right?

I do too. I have a soft spot for Julia Stiles due to Ten Things I Hate About You, but earlier in the season she was pretty flat. Her character has really endeared herself to me in the last few episodes.

Yep, I share that soft spot.
I find it sweet how much she seeks his approval (when she was excited about the gloves that were like his and wanted her outfit to be like his, etc.). And I think it's nice for him to have that refuge of someone he can talk to without having to make up any stories or hide anything.

I like the fact that Quinn has a video saved to his hard drive of a cat that burps and farts simultaneously. Also, what's with the Peet's product placement?
I hope Lumen kills Jordan, kills 'em good.

Jennifer Carpenter is more and more brilliant each season. Can't wait to see what she does in the finale.
I am disappointed to see Peter Weller written out this soon.
I have a guess as to what the blood dripping on Quinn's shoe means for his legal future.
I would like more clarification about "Emily," the first victim, and her motivations for her loyalty to Jordan.
The title of the first Dexter book is "Darkly Dreaming Dexter." Next week's episode has a title taken from a bible verse, "Through a Glass, Darkly" ("glass" in this context meaning "mirror"). I have a hunch, however unfounded, that the events of the finale could put next season (the show has been renewed, and the nature of the actors' deals mean there will probably be at least two more seasons) more in line with the continuity of the books.

Yeah, the first thing I said when I saw that blood drip onto his shoe was, "Well, that ties him to the scene." I don't like Quinn and think the actor who plays him is the poor man's (young) Ray Liotta, but it'll kinda suck if he gets sent up for killing Liddie. I would rather he got nailed for something shitty he actually did.
I'm kinda warming up to the Lumen/Dexter relationship, though I think I would've been on board from the start if a) she didn't have such a ridiculous name and 2) she was portrayed by a less wooden actress. I never saw 10 Things I Hate About You.
Edited for clarity.

"whatever, i just want stiles off this show. not warming up to her like some of you are, don't care how they get rid of her."
YES. I think that Lumen (the character itself) could be much better played. I would imagine that someone like her would be vengeful, but to a much severe degree. I kind of liked her character in the beginning when she was resisting Dexter and actually acting like she had been traumatized. It seems like she softened up so quick (and it may be just to get the show on the road, figuratively speaking, and her discovery of what Dexter did intrigued her to the point where she realized he could help her/she could help him, etc.) and I really wanted to see her do some more crazyass stuff! I don't know specifically what I would have expected, but I know if I was traumatized like her, I'd probably go nuts.

I thought this was one of the best episodes of the season.
While I am glad the the season woke up from its little coma of a few weeks back when nothing seemed to happen for weeks- I am now a more than little miffed that its ending so soon.
RIP RoboCop Liddy - you were this season's monkey wrench in the machine wrecking more havoc than you had screen time.
I want to know more about Emily too- I hope that next week we learn a little more.
I go back and forth on Lumen- I kind of like that Dexter has found someone that he doesn't have to hide himself from- but I seriously doubt this will end well.
As for Deb ........... sigh; I am guessing Quinn will follow in the steps of Brian, Motherforking-Doakes and Special Agent Rock Star.
She should just go off with Michangelo and forget about men altogether.
