Has anyone watched this Netflix series? It's 13 episodes, and I just binge-watched the whole first season. It's completely brilliant!

Basically, this WASP-y chick goes to prison for being part of a an international drug-running ring, and the series tells the stories of her and the other women in the prison. It's nothing like what I might have expected. These are some very diverse and extremely well-written characters with compelling stories, and it was pretty much impossible for me to not click "next" when each episode was finished. My only regret is not spacing the season out.

I want to hear what you guys think! Any particular favorite characters? Mine are the trans woman (played by a trans woman actress, who is amazing) and the Christian meth head.

I remember hearing about the book a few years ago.

I might check it out since Tom & Lorenzo ordered their bitter kittens to give it a try. (<3 TLo)

I really liked it. So much great attention to detail (ex. the rhubarbed eggplant "joke") and character depth. I think it does a great job of being entertaining and realistic. Plus, Laura Prepon looks amazing as a brunette.

They may or may not have been the catalyst to my binge! :)

I love running into TLo fans. I'm so happy for them that they were able to monetize/capitalize on their blog and turn it into their business. (also, true to their awesomeness, they were able to do it without spamming their kittens with ads and pop ups and other assorted obnoxious stuff)

Me too! I've been with them since the Project Rungay days, with the Alex comics and all, and it's just amazing to see how far they've come. I can't wait for their book, which I'm sure will be hysterical. Those guys work hard, and I'm glad to see how it's paying off for them.

Planning to watch this soon! I've heard great things (yes, mostly from T & Lo!), so next time I have some free tv time I'll be mainlining this for sure.

I've watched them all, so good. What do you think happened in episode 13?

I had the book on hold at the library forEVER, but there were like 75 people ahead of me in line for one copy. I wonder if I'm still on that hold list. I didn't know there was a series but now I'm excited!

I've been home on sick leave so I also watched the whole season over two days. So forking good! I didn't really know anything about it other than having heard a couple of people mention it on Twitter, so I watched the first episode and was like 'that was pretty entertaining, I guess'. But then when it started moving more away from Piper's story, I got totally sucked in by all the other characters and binged. I love how they explore the backgrounds of different people, and there are so many that I want to know more about (like Suzanne/Crazy Eyes!). I think my favourite is Sophia, but I also love Taystee and Poussey together. I'm so bummed that I have to wait so long for more now.

We just started watching. I wasn't a big fan of the first episode but the 2nd one was better.

After the first episode I was "meh..." but by ep 3 or so I was totally hooked and couldn't stop. I'm totally in love with Red.

I am dying to know Crazy Eyes' back story! And the girl with the blonde cornrows (forgot her name) totally broke my heart.

Oh yeah, I really felt for her, too! I can't remember her name though.

It's better than I thought it would be. It has that mildly irritating Jenji Kohan touch, but there are also some strong, unpredictable characterizations.

I keep not quite being able to place people in this show. It took me forever to realize that Alex was Donna from That 70s Show, and that Red was Captain Janeway.

Yeah, it's Laverne from I Want To Work For Diddy/Transform Me! Love her.

I'm not finished yet but I love it. The only thing that I don't like about Netflix's 'the whole season at once' thing is that it makes it hard to discuss here since you don't want to spoil it for anyone.

And it already got another season!

I like the main actress a lot and Natasha Lyonne and Jason Biggs (and whoever plays Miss Claudette), but a lot of the acting feels second rate and really pulls me out of the show. I've only seen four episodes though and it does seem to be gradually improving at least. The episode focusing on the trans character was my favorite so far.

I like that Jason Biggs had Uncle Eddie's cookies and even said 'Uncle Eddie's vegan cookies' and there was no joke about vegans.
