"If ever a standalone novel cried out to become a full-blown series, this is it. But even if this tale of the Weird West winds up being Lou Merriwether's only adventure, it should go down as a legendary one: Vermilion is a unique, hearty, thought-provoking romp that rewrites history with a vivacious flourish."

I finished it yesterday, and my immediate reaction was, [spoilered for those who haven't read it]

Spoiler: show
I wanna know what happens when Lou and Coriander get back to SF! And what happened to Dr P and Shai?!

I also told my husband about the talking bears helping win the Civil War, and he wants a story about that*. Prequel!

So, yeah, loved it, want more. All of the relationships were handled really well, and I liked that Lou wasn't a total badass who never made a misstep or got something completely wrong. The characters felt real even though the world was more magical (for lack of a better word) than ours. Even some of the magic felt more realistic than magic in other fantasy novels. Please write another!

*I was trying to tell him how good the book was, but he was hyper-focused on the talking bears. I tried to explain that the bears weren't really the central plot, but he still said he would read it.

I'm going to order this and maybe also order it for our bookshop (after I finished it).

Oh my gosh you guys, thanks so much!! I can't tell you how happy it makes me that you all enjoyed it. That's the best!

And yeah, that NPR review. So cool!

It's wonderful hearing so many people are eager for a sequel (other reviewers have remarked on the, ah, "open-endedness" of the ending). I'm hopeful this won't be Lou's last adventure, too! :D

I just finished reading this... so much fun! And I agree with the NPR review that there needs to be more Lou Merriweather adventures.

I'm finally reading this and it's so good! There's really rich world-building and it's leaked to the reader slowly, in a very natural way that keeps me fascinated.

How did I miss this thread when your book first came out? Big congrats! I am in awe of anyone who can write a whole book as I think it's a whole lot of hard, hard work in the process! I must read it!!! <3 <3 <3
