Even with Candice's cake, the top layer was gluten free and Paul was all "oh it's so hard to make gluten free cake" I mean really? It's not! It was...in the past...but it really isn't that hard anymore. I can't imagine what he'd say if he was faced with aquafaba.

Lots of people who aren't eating gluten free do cakes with ground almonds and cocoa powder instead of wheat flour, it makes a very rich cake. I thought that was quite common?

Based on his reaction to tofu it would probably drain his hair of all the gel.

Does anyone else feel extremely uncomfortable every time they smush the contestants on top of each other on those stools during the technical judging and at the end? Give those poor people some space! Especially at this point when their numbers are significantly lower.

Tudor week? Botanical week? Did they hate the free from week last year that much?

I know! How can Tudors and botanicals be more relevant to the modern baker than free from bakes?!

I'm glad Tom got the boot and Selasi managed to cling on. I think he'll probably be next to go though. It's quite tough to call now - I feel like the three women should probably edge it into the final, but anything can happen on the day.

I'm going to have to be really shallow and say this, does anyone else think the lighting this year is weird? It's seems really yellow/orange, the contestants and presenters seem Orangey, and it seems to be exacerbating things that are already red/orange (like Andrews hair (still cute as hell though))? Maybe my tv is broke but it just seems to be this show

How on earth is Selasi still there but Benjamina is not? I mean, I love them both, but nope. Wrong choice.

I think Selasi's charisma helped to carry him through. You could see last night how much everyone loved him and didn't really want to lose him.

I hope Candice wins. She's been consistently good, and I'd like to see a female winner who isn't a mum - I'm curious as to how she'll be marketed. Also, from the very first episode I've seen a bit of backlash where people seem to dislike her just because of her lipstick - like it's a crime to want to look attractive on tv. (I'm just referring to my own acquaintance and social media here, I don't know if it's a bigger thing.)

That said, I'll still be happy if Jane wins, she's been great too. I don't think Andrew has been consistent enough.

Totally agreed ^

Mary seemed rather taken with Selasi (as does most of the internet) and I'm sure he'll go on to have a great career in baking if he wants.

And yeah Candice has that typical "lets hate pretty women" thing going on in the media/social media which really annoys me. So what, she wears lipstick, so do a whole lot of women! And some men! I've seen lots of people saying they don't like her accent which is odd because I've not seen anyone saying the same about Andrew's accent. People talk differently, get over it. I think she's really clever with her bakes - that gingerbread pub she did complete with sticky carpet was wonderful.

I think Candice is awesome. She's had a few dodgy moments but she's made some really good stuff - that peacock last week was amazing!!

I actually like all the final 3, I'm happy for any of them to win but I'm rooting for Candice now that Benjamina has gone.

Well all those people can lick my love-pump, Candice's lipstick is on forking point.

She was really snarky to someone on Twitter who said they hated her. She said "Oh no, I was just about to ask you to be my BFF"

Mat.

The only thing that bugs me about Candice is the way she purses her lips all the time. But that's just one of my things. Her lipstick is amazing, I want to own the dress she was wearing in that episode, and (most importantly), she's done some absolutely wonderful things on this show.

I'm happy with all of the final three, and won't be disappointed with any winner.

And how cute was Andrew's face when they announced star baker?

I'm not reading this thread, but I'm catching up on youtube right now! I'm on episode 7. I'm glad they kicked off michael (the 19 year old kid?). I couldn't tell the difference between him and Tom. I kept thinking they were the same person.

Candice has been my favourite since the beginning (and I love her accent!) so I've got my fingers crossed for her to win!

I can totally see people not liking her (but not in an understandable/justifiable way), but that is why I generally avoid any sort of mainstream media about these things, as it makes me rage.

I watched all the eps yesterday so I'm caught up. Thank God for you tube. I'm sad that Benjamina is gone. I wish Andrew had messed up more so he could have been the one to go. I like Candice and Jane. I have noticed Candice's constant duck face, but she's definitely got the best decorating skills of the final 3.

What day is the show on? I want to be sure to check you tube right away.

Some accents are a lot more grating than others though.

I can't believe Bake Off as we know it is over. Sob, sob.

It was a good finale. I liked the fact that everyone was pretty evenly matched after two rounds, so it was all riding on the showstopper. I thought Andrew's spreadsheet might help him coast through to glory, especially when Jane just seemed to lose it at the end. I'm so pleased Candice won though, she seems like a truly deserving winner. Also, I love the fact that she and Jane are planning a trip together. Bake Off friendships are the best!
