Oh dear. Did Amy and Rory have a fight?
I accidentally made plans for Saturday, which I am now going to cancel, because I am a terrible friend who would rather watch Doctor Who. (I am not going to tell my friends that, though!)
Someone on fb is seriously complaining that her husband is MAKING her watch Dr Who. She hates it - says that it's "weird" and is trying too hard to be funny, and "sci-fi isn't supposed to be funny." I'm so close to screaming/defriending right now.

Jeez, I don't see why her husband would even want her to watch with him. I wouldn't want to watch any show with someone who was so complain-y about it! My mother thinks Doctor Who is "weird", but she thinks all scifi is weird. She still watches it with me sometimes, and she likes when it's funny. One of her friends posted a picture on fb of a cute tardis cake yesterday, and my mom called me over to see it. She was absolutely shocked that someone else had seen the show. She apparently thought I was the only person in the world who knew about it. I tried to tell her that it is a fairly popular show now, and she would not believe me.
Ha! I was one of the weirdos who grew up watching Doctor Who in the US (Tom Baker was my first doctor - but this was in reruns, so don't try and age me based on that!!). I had no idea as a kid that other people didn't watch it. I realized as I got older and would reference DW stuff that people were clueless. I felt/feel sad for those people.

I watched the old show (wasn't it on PBS! If only it was still on PBS!) with my dad back in the day. I really don't think I always got it but I liked it. I didn't really remember much of it though.
I remember during the years the show was gone when I was in HS and in marching band, we played that band cheer thing and it was called "Dr Who" and I was confused because I hadn't heard the song in 10 years at the time, but I just knew that what we were playing in band wasn't the theme song.

Me too! I never understood that. I assume you're referring to "Rock 'n' Roll Pt 2" - that's what we played as the "Dr Who" song (but we mostly called it "The Hey Song"). I never actually watched the show back then (it was on at the same time as SNL and it pissed me off when my dad would commandeer the TV to watch it when the rest of us wanted to watch SNL), but I knew that song had nothing to do with it.
ETA - Here we go:

"Doctorin' the Tardis", a novelty electronica single by The Timelords, alias The KLF, included a re-setting of "Rock and Roll"'s chorus with the lyric "Dr Who, Dr Who, hey! The Tardis", and reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in June 1988.

Ah, that brings back great memories - the video is shot in the area I live in, and is on You Tube for those of you whose lives have been sadly KLF deficient...

KLF! They used to play Doctorin' the Tardis at our school discos. And that one with Tammy Wynette that I think I've still got on cassette somewhere.
I'm super-stoked it's back in a prime-time slot again as opposed to last year or the year before when they kept putting it on at ludicrous 6pm, necessitating me having to bomb it home from work so as not to miss the start. 7.20pm suits me perfectly, I'll even be able to get my tea made beforehand.

And now I actually get to watch the first episode of this season because my dad has cable, and then wait til the rest gets on netflix or watch some stupid streaming thing with like Chinese subtitles, so I'll wait.
Unless I find someone with cable.
Actually, my ex might have just gotten BBC America which has it but every time I've asked she hasn't said so so I can't really make plans.

I'm so frustrated that we don't get BBC America! I wish they played it on OPB. I wonder how long it'll be until I can catch up!

So that was Jenna-Louise Colman as souffle girl, right? So how do you think she will be the new companion come christmas? Playing a totally different character? Or some timey-wimey explanation?

These are the majority of my questions.
