That sounds so dirty. Make a new screwdriver = hilarious euphemism for stroganoff.

That made me seriously weepy, guys. Like, from the part where I thought the shark was going to die until the very end.

I liked it as a kids' show, but kept thinking of plot holes. I mean, if the sick woman only has 7 days to go, wouldn't it be mentioned/written on the door of her ice box/a bit of a priority for a rich dude to fund research into a cure? How do they know it is 7 days? What illness has an exact timer but still leaves you looking extra pretty for Xmas eve? (I know, an alien one.)

I saw it as a bit of an example of Moffat's clumsiness with roles for women. He tends to make them either Sally Sparrow/River Song/Amy Pond -style sassy Mary Sues, or plot motivators for the blokes. I would have loved to see a bit more depth in her role, rather than just saintly dying sweetness, with an overtone of creepy falling in love with a young boy in 6 days.

The fish and sharks were very cool. I loved the Trek-esque bridge on the crashing ship.

I am sure all y'all saw the news that David Tennant is engaged to Georgia Moffet (the Doctors Daughter).
Congrats to them both.

Yes, there were many, many, many plot holes. But there was also a shark pulling a buggy. I think it's the best Christmas special of the New Who!

I don't think any of the women you mention qualify as Mary Sues. They might be a tad clichéd, but I don't think they're Mary Sues. As for Xmas Lady, I think she was exactly the sort of female character you'd expect to see in a fairy tale. Awesome lady would've been awesome, but I'm not unduly upset that she was Perfect and Doomed instead.

I kinda like the theory that the Doctor *did* know about the countdown, etc. and made Kazran's life terrible on purpose.

After the Supernatural vs. Who thread revealed my insane dislike of Ten, I went back and watched a good chunk of series 4 (roommate was gonna cut me if I watched the Forest of the Dead since the previous episode annoyed the shiitake out of him, and I suddenly remembered how much I hated the Doctor clone/Rose thing at the end of that series), and I have to say ... I am able to enjoy Ten's episodes, but the love I used to have for him is gone.

Okay, the clone with Rose is awful, but don't you love Doctor-Donna in that episode? I think I love her more than actual Doctor.

Yes, Doctor-Donna is awesome, but I couldn't make myself watch it. Not with the specials looming ahead. Have I mentioned exactly how much I hate those specials? I'm downright unreasonable!

No, the specials were horrendous. Ten's tantrum about sacrificing himself for Wilfred (who is AWESOME) killed him for me.

I always thought that was kind of weird. Ten was the "up with people!" Doctor, you'd think he'd rather sacrifice himself for Wilf than get killed by some alien.

The specials destroyed my love for Ten, and that moment was one of the main reasons. Especially since Nine sacrificing himself for Rose is forking awesome. I will take "And you know what? So was I!" over "I don't want to go" every. freaking. time.

Journey's End was forking atrocious. If I had any dignity, I would have stopped watching after that.

Definitely. And poor Wilf having to listen to that diatribe! He didn't deserve such horrid treatment!

Besides, Ten should be happy because now he gets to wear bow ties. And bow ties are cool.

I still love ten more (except maybe the last special) than 11 and 11 is my least favorite Doctor of all (except maybe number 8--movie only Doc), maybe because so far I've found his episodes to have more huge plot holes than any b4. (Yes, I know all the Doctors have had plot holes and non-scientific "scientific" explanations, but so far 11's plot holes and ridiculous explanations of happenings has been more ridiculous IMO.) The Christmas special also did zero for me and didn't improve my view of 11. I don't hate 11, but I'm not dying to see more like I felt with EVERY other Doctor (except maybe 8). I actually dread the possibility that his episodes might be worse...but apparently I'm in the minority here.
