Lots of good ideas here. I'd kind of love Noel Fielding to be 12.

I'm sick of The God-Doctor. I want a spin-off show about Lady Vastra, Jenny and Strax.

Me three for the spin-off, but I still love the Doctor too.

That spin-off would be amazing. Maybe not even that far-fetched?

I really can't imagine who'll they'll have as the next Doctor, but it probably goes without saying that I am excited to see the back of Matt Smith! I was re-watching his first episode the other day, and remembering liking him well enough to begin with, but he's definitely had his time.

The next Doctor will be the 12th one ... initially it was said that there can only be 13 doctors ... only so many regenerations ... but apparently that is no longer the case ...

Anne who still missed the good looking David Tennant ...

We're not too sad about Matt Smith. I like him, the guy doesn't. The chinchillas aren't fond of him too much. We're in Christopher Eccleston's corner and felt he didn't have enough time. David Tennant was AWESOME and ruled the role. I am still all about Tom Baker because he's who I saw as a child watching the show. I need another Doctor like that.

I have been liking the discussion about a possible female Doctor but I'm not holding my breath. I just don't think that it's feasible in the universe of the show to have a gender switch and the majority of fans I don't see accepting it.

I really hope it is an unknown who will stick with it for a while. You are the doctor, stop pissing off after a couple of years already!

Neil Gaiman made a good post on tumblr about how it is better to have an unknown actor play the doctor because we get to know them and watch them unfold on screen, without any pre-conceived notions of who they are or should be.

Oooh. Did you see that bookmakers had 2-1 odds on Peter Capaldi? I would peg him as more of a villain than The Doctor.

There's no forking way Capaldi is it (tho it'd be forking awesome!). Omnishambles or naw. He's been in it twice already since the reboot.

FALSE. He's only been in Doctor Who once, and then in five episodes of Torchwood.

Tilda Swinton would be amazing! I want to move to whatever time stream exists where she is The Doctor!

Mat.

Yeah, same! I thought for a while that it would be cool to have no idea who it's going to be, but the only way I could do that would be to completely avoid the internet until christmas, and I know that's not going to happen!

They got another white guy to play the Doctor! At least this one is Scottish - hopefully they won't make him do a British accent like they did with Tennant.

OMG! OMG! OMG! I am eating my forking hat. As soon as I saw the anonymous clenched hand backstage I realised who it was. I squealed, I have to say. I hope he gets to call the Daleks croissants. Ok, I know that wont happen. But still. YAY!!

I have to say, I'm much more excited about Capaldi as the Doctor than I was about Matt Smith. I think he'll be great.

I don't remember this guy from Torchwood. Is he in the second season? The only thing I recognize him from is Neverwhere.

fork YEAH, Capaldi! Can I just state for the record that I'm really glad they went with someone a bit older this time? He's gonna be so great.

He was in the Children of Earth series, which was a single story arc over five episodes, and comprised the entire 3rd series.
