Last night we watched The VVitch
Tonight: Poltergeist

I never watched scary movies until a few years back, so we're working on catching me up on the classics.

I don't like scary movies, so I'll abstain. However, Mothman Prophesies freaked me the fork out. Still does, years later. If you like being freaked out, I can recommend it. Just thinking about it now has prickles crawling up my spine. I know-I'm a wuss.

I want to watch some of the classics. I just watched the original Psycho a couple of months ago, which was fantastic. Now I want to see everything!

I am on season 2 of Penny Dreadful and I feel like I deserve a medal because season one was scary as fork. It feels festive.

I need to watch so many things. I don't even know where to start I try every year to do all the halloween movies but they are never all available at the same time.

Zelavie, have you seen Rope or Rear Window? Rope is one of my favorites. It is loosely based on the Leopold and Loeb case . I love Hitchcock.

I am a huge and total baby about scary movies.

Having said that, this weekend I finally watched the BBC adaptation of "And Then There Were None" which I recorded last Christmas and never got round to watching. And that was certainly tense. Not your usual cosy Christie film.

Someone recommended this to me and since I'm after new stuff to watch on Netflix, I'm starting this tonight!

I'm not a fan of gratuitous violence/murders etc. that seem to be the focus of modern horror films but I love spooky stuff like haunted houses, witchcraft etc. Anything set in Victorian times is probably a winner for me if anyone has any suggestions.

I may not go scarier than these classics: Nightmare Before Christmas and Shaun of the Dead.

I really love the mid-70's through the mid-80's. The 1977 The Hills Have Eyes is horrifying in the best way. I don't watch the remakes and don't like the splatterfests that came later. See also: The Exorcist, The Omen (my mom had two rottweilers when I was a kid because of this film), The Last House on the Left, Carrie, Dawn of the Dead, and so forth.

When my niece was about 6, her favorite film was C.H.U.D. (1984). This is apparently why cable was invented; so small children could watch inappropriate films late at night.

I watched The Forest on demand on Saturday. It was...not that great.

I want to watch the new season of Scream Queens, but I feel like I need to watch it again to be caught up, so I started the re-watch last night.

I already watched Frankenstein (1931) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935) last night. This is my favorite month for movies. I hope to catch some Hitchcock films (specifically Psycho and some others), Rosemary's Baby, Carnival of Souls, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, The Innocents, The Uninvited... I'd love to see some Stephen King adaptations, specifically Misery but I'd also love to see Carrie and others...

My new favorite movie and I've been waiting until this season to re-watch it: What We Do In The Shadows!
Not scary, but definitely in theme and hilarious and perfect in every way.

October is a great movie month !

The Conjuring (2013)
Event Horizon (1997)
The Changeling (1980) [Roger Ebert "This is a scare movie with taste”]
The House of Wax (1953) [ Vincent Price at his menacing and creepy best]

Yes! to The Changeling and Yes! to House of Wax which I saw for only the first time last year, even though it's an oldie. I meant to add it to my list earlier and accidentally left it off. House of Wax I thought would be junk going in but it's a good one that I'd like to see again!

Maybe the original Gingersnaps movie too. Oh, there will be a list that keeps coming as the month unfolds. There was one creepy movie I saw made circa 1967 a while back that was three small stories in one film, all creepy. I forget the title, but I'd like to catch that again on TCM.

Race with the Devil (1975)
Blair Witch Project (2000?)

I will prolly watch Black Christmas (1974) at some point as well if I run short of scary films (I always watch this at Christmas, at least) and need one to watch in a spooky craving emergency!

I've seen very little Hitchcock. I'll add both of those to my list, for sure. Thanks!

I've suddenly developed a taste for light-medium scary movies, especially really bad ones. Maybe more on the "thriller" side of things.

I am ok with demons and serial killers that aren't too terrifying and vampires. I am NOT OK with zombies and for the most part, ghosts.

I would like recommendations please!

As for what I have planned: I haven't watched any of the Hannibal movies in a while. Nightmare before Christmas will happen because yeah. Maybe the Craft and Hocus Pocus (not scary, but so good). Probably some of the serial killer/witch documentaries on Netflix.

I think I'm going to watch Suspiria and then maybe A Girl Walks Home Alone AND CETERA.

I thought Housebound was kind of fun up until the final act, when the comedy goes from very dry and subdued to bugs bunny slapstick. That never, ever works and I wish people would stop doing it. Did we learn nothing from Space Jam?

good suggestions guys! I think we are going to watch the boy at some point, too, but I refuse to watch mama. Looks too scary!

Mumbles, was Housebound the one about the girl on house arrest at her parents house?

Moon, I'd suggest watching some of the 70s and 80s classics like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elmstreet, Poltergeist etc... But I don't recommend the original texas chainsaw massacre to ease into it. that movie is fuuuuucked up.

Going to try and get my husband to watch The Babadook. TW for animal cruelty but it is such a good film otherwise. I always watch The Shining, but this year I think I'm going to track down older Japanese horror that I haven't seen, like Kwaidan and The Ghost of Yotsuya.

I haven't seen Oculus, Housebound or The Conjuring, those are on my to watch list.

The Innocents, The Haunting (1963), Rebecca, The Orphanage (mild gore, only two scenes), and The Uninvited are all good. The Woman In Black was ooookay.

Also, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night is a great not scary vampire film.

Ha. My friend posted that on Twitter, and I thought he took the photo, but I've seen it a couple other places, so I guess he did not!
